Reds Secure Shorey Extension
Thu 31 Dec 2009

Nottingham Forest have extended Nicky Shorey's loan spell at The City Ground from Aston Villa.

The Reds have struck a deal with Villa which will see the England international stay with them until the end of January.

Shorey is unable to play in Saturday's FA Cup third round tie against Birmingham and Villa have the right to recall him at 24 hours notice.

The 28 year old made seven appearances in his initial loan spell with Forest, helping the club extend their unbeaten run to 16 Championship matches and keep five successive clean sheets.

Was hoping for a few more months to be honest with you, but eh, it's great news!

Hoping that we can thrash out something permanent before the end of January, then, I guess!

Reassuring news that we have Nicky for the forseeable which will take us up to the Derby game on 30th assuming Villa do not recall within that time.

A permanent deal must shorely be on the cards.

I don't think he would sign permanently untill we were in the Prem. He could probably get a Prem team.

Seems like MON is protecting his ass - If he gets someone in himself then he'll possibly consider a offer from us, but if he doesn't then he might need Shorey as cover for the run-in.

Only what any half-intelligent manager would do though, no?

The good news about this is it's a new deal not and extension and as the original deal will be made official in January and thus struck in a transfer window it means we can keep extending the loan up to the end of the season or sign him at any time if the loan is extended to say Feb, March or April...

Nah, it's an extension of his original 'emergency loan'.

I checked the dates earlier and at the end of January, he'll have been here approximately 65 days, which would give us the option of loaning him for a further 4 weeks after that, taking him up to the maximum 93 days permitted by the Football league.

Long term loan deals which you refer to can only run from transfer window to transfer window (January to the Summer in this case) and there's no recall clause.

If anything I suppose it stops any other club getting a look in now until the summer. Hopefully in the summer if we are promoted it will give us the edge over other clubs too.

Disappointed it's only for a month though, but a month is better then nothing.

5 clean sheets in his 7 games here.

great to have him even if it just for another month i think the team we will feel it when or if he goes, he is a quality player in my book.

If a club put in an offer in Jan they could still sign him I think.

That's annoying, I can only assume the terms are favourable to us and we want to keep them as they are otherwise we'd surely have just started it as a new loan deal.

The last bit you put isn't right though they can run for any length up to twelve months if they are taken up in a transfer window and can still have a recall clause in them. I can remember digging it up from the rules and regulations last year when there was all the fuss about signing Camp on loan in Jan or Feb last year.

Hopefully we will be able to sort out something more permenant for Shorey this month.

Bouma is still not back to full fitness, so MON may be reluctant to let him go until then as he will have little cover for Warnock.
