Forest Player, tis all well and good, I enjoy using it, but I knew i couldnt warrant a new subscription this soon in the year, so I tryed to cancel at the beginning of august... and then again, and then again.. it wouldnt let me cancel. So now i've been charged the 30 pounds or what ever it is, so i sent this email:

> I tried to unsubscribe several times, before my renewal date was around, so that i wasnt charged. The renewal date has now passed and I have been charged for a year's subscribtion which i hadnt asked for and did not want. Please could you arrange a refund asap as this has made me overdrawn and I am very dissatisfied

only to get this as a dismissive response:

> Hi Jamie,
>
> Thank you for contacting us.
>
> Unfortunately we are unable to provide you with a refund for your recent payment. Under the terms and conditions of the agreement cancellation must be made no less than five working days prior to the end of the period for which you have paid.
>
> However we have now cancelled your repeating subscription to Player and no further charges will be made to your debit/credit card in the future. You will also continue to have access to Player until your current subscription ends in one year.
>
> Please feel free to contact us if we can be of any further assistance,
>
> Best Regards

I know I was technically in the wrong for not emailing them directly before it was too late, but the unsubscribe button on the website does not work, I'm so pissed off it's unreal

Keep going mate - they'll do it eventually. Send another one talking about the financial climate and that you've got 5 kids to feed. I shouldn't be punished for your websites incompetence etc etc.

Then threaten them with the financial ombudsman and Watchdog - they'll cave in, they always do.

The stupid thing is i can just about afford it, but not yet, but this has put me right off, f*** it i'll just watch the bbc highlights.
The only reason i bought it last year was for that i was in Germany for the year, obviously cant get Radio Nottingham there lol
But i'm pretty sure when i bought it, i did it with my debit card, and nowhere im sure did it say yearly subscribtion, im positive i just bought a year, cant remember lol

With anything like this - breakdown memberships, gym memberships etc. I just cancel the direct debit with my bank (you can normally do it online) then send a cancellation letter after.

They can't get their mitts on your cash then.

I didnt do a direct debit from my bank tho, i'm nearly sure of it, which doesn't help i guess. I payed with my debit card, and i'm sure they can't take repeat payment from a debit card, not that i know of?

I feel your pain, I really do, but when the button failed to work the 2nd time you should have gone to them then...

it appears that shoddy customer service in this case if driven by shoddy customers

what were the terms and conditions you signed up to?. Check them first.

There is an argument that if you were having trouble cancelling over the web, that you should have contacted Forest directly a soon as you felt there was a problem.

However you may have some recourse by lodging a fraudulent transcation with your bank.

I had a real problem trying to cancel an AOL account from my credit card. AOL couldn't find any record of me being a customer despite taking a subscription from me every month and sending me all sorts of mail to my home address. So I went to my credit card company and registered fraudulent activity. Lo and behold the payments stopped and I got a fair whack credited back.

May be worth a go. I think this is where you may be covered by the consumer credit act section 75
