Older members will remember, the constant rumours surrounding Clough and Forest.

The atmosphere at the club could hardly be called harmonious, in those glory days, Clough manipulated the press and tried to manipulate the Committee via the press and fan base. It seemed every other week he was heading out of the door, to pastures new

One strong quiet man behind the scenes wrapped Clough in knots, he loved his lifelong passion for Forest and would not allow anyone to attempt to destroy or hold the club to ransom, even Brian Clough.

Clough and Geoffry McPherson QC, could not have been more opposite, but McPheresons brains allied to Cloughs footballing management ability, despite the alleged fact........they could hardly stand the sight of each other.....worked wonders for Forest.

Is Davies trying the same game, with another quiet, yet so powerful figure ?, If so, there is only going to be one winner.

I was about to say "two winners - Doughty & Forest" but I'm not sure how losing Billy Davies right now would be other than counter-productive.

I'm hoping both BD & ND went into this eyes wide open, and that half of what we read is "bull" and the rest is "shit"...They're both too smart for it to be anything else, surely?

While McPherson loved the club dearly, he didn't OWN it! IF BD wants to play hardball (aka silly buggers), he'll need to be careful of the door hitting him on the way out. In a shitfight like this, Doughty will be the only winner, and that may not necessarily include Forest.....

But they're both too smart....aren't they?

If he's a shadow of the great man, it's still a pale shadow... but hopefully he sticks around long enough to become more opaque.

How f***ing profound did THAT sound?

it was beautiful.
although you should wash your mouth out with soap.

The difference is that the Forest board were prepared to allow Clough a dictatorial role at the club and give him what he demanded. In the current situation Billy will either compromise or he will be out.

ridiculous comparing jimmy to bc.

brian clough used the 'look what ive won for your team, now give me what i want'

krankie has done f*** all.

he has no right to moan.

he should feel lucky he is managing our great club

CC should have done the same when he got us promoted.

We all knew this would happen, he's a mardy little twat. Good manager but a mardy little twat.

Sedge is right. BC was a compulsive manipulator, why did he get the 'boot' from the 'sheep'. Sounds familiar does'nt it!. I've not heard any rumblings about BD's relationship with Ned, unlike those fallings out BC had with Taylor. I suppose this is why I have not been too bothered with the comments BD has made so far, us older fans have heard it all before.

Talking about this last night.
Billy has to earn the right to spout off, he's won us nowt yet.
He's turned a 3rd division club into a second, and almost got us to the Premiership. Probably have done so had he not had the rug pulled from underneath him in January.

Let's look at this another way. How many times have managers started off well, signed a few players, the clubs results then look promising. Then suddenly January hits us, we fail to build up on the promising start and the manager is sacked because we failed to progress? Calderwood grasped a lucky promotion from League 1, for which we had a very good team for that league. Personally I see Billy trying to end this cycle of failure within the club and I have no problem with this.

Doughty has brought all this on himself by not backing Davies in January when we were in a fantastic position and hence throwing away our best chance of promotion in 11 years. Davies was undermined and it must not happen again.

It's not Doughty, the money was there to spend in my opinion. It's our way of doing business is where the failure is and has been for many years. I'm all for having second opinions on transfers to ensure money is not wasted, but we take to long, we dither and we are not proffessional enough.

I don't think it was.

Bidding for unrealistic targets doesn't mean money was available as far as I am concerned.

For those who say Billy has not achieved anything yet:

We were all preparing for Tuesday nights in Carlisle again the week before he was brought into the club. He kept us from relegation. That's an achievement.

He then bolstered our squad with good CCC players for decent prices, with the co-operation of the AP. This ensured we weren't lured into the relegation dogfight for a consecutive season. Achievement two.

We then started to produce some of the best football seen at the CG for yonks. The performances against Leicester, Newcastle and WBA away were even better than the good days under Hart. We were simply orgasmic. Achievement three.

Finishing third, albeit losing in the playoffs, has put us on a great platform for next season. Players will look at us now as a team going towards the Premiership, not League One. Your Shorey's of the footballing world are far more inclined to sign on the dotted line because of this. Achievement four.

Achievement five will be promotion to the Premier League.

Indeed.

Billy has been sensational for the club and Doughty needs to do what has to be done to keep him here.

but not be seen to do that. Let Billy have his moan, yet try and keep him in line a little. Doughty and only Doughty must have some control over this but not too much. Take the meddlers out of the equation though.

I'm still not convinced he had the rug pulled from under him in January. I would have loved Shorey to stay as much as anyone, but his wages were too high. We had no 2nd choice when that option fell through.

It's easy to name a target that is unattainable.

Don't get me wrong, I want Billy to stay, but I want him to show us some respect. As said elsewhere, if it comes to a fight, Doughty will win, but Forest could lose.

I wasn't referring to Shorey, we all know that was an unlikely target, but why was the Raddy deal not tied up in Jan as he requested? Why did we suddenly sign Boyd out of the blue after the transfer window and why did we not try and loan a natural left back which we were crying out for. I'm not suggesting for one minute we should have spent another 9 million in the window and I am confident Billy was not either, but BD said himself Raddy's mind was not in a good frame because we failed to act in January, and he most certainly said we needed a left back. Billy also mentioned about the need for only 1 or 2 fresh faces to liven up the squad a little. The same old story but under a manager who chooses to voice his annoyance and let the fans know rather than nod politely whilst taking it from behind!!

And then what? Billy throws his dummy out again and demands more?

He knew what the situation was when he came.

In times like this, I think back to the shareholders meeting at the City Ground. At the end of the meeting, I was stood near to Doughty when Irving Korn went over to him and said, "We will have to have discussions on this if you don't win", Doughty turned to him and said "I always win".

The Boyd affair causes me some concern to be honest. If Billy wanted him, why didn't he play him?

If he didn't want him why the hell did we get him in?
