Serhou Guirassy

Why does everyone think that it has to be Taiwo or Serhou?
You know they could both play in the same team.
442 is still, possible or 433 or variants of them both playing at the same time.

Anyway his hot streak his going to make it impossible for us to sign him.
We are just not going to be able to compete with some of the clubs that are going to be in for him
Because there are very few teams/managers who now have the ability to drop that extra man from midfield to play another outright striker. I mean there is City who play with two up top and that is about it.
We need two main strikers, not one

Partly because of injuries, partly because we need to vary tactics, and partly because games are 105 minutes now.

It’s perfectly possible to give two really good strikers loads of playing time.
Have a quick run through the bottom half of the table and tell me how many teams have two main strikers. Half of them don't even have one...

We can go round and round on this (and probably will), but we can all agree that we'd love to sign Guirassy for £17m in January. I think most of us just realise that's pretty unlikely given the range of more attractive suitors he'll have.
Had we not reached a similar conclusion on Sangarè in the summer?

Indeed, and so I do retain a slight hope! I don't think the situations are quite the same though. But yes maybe I'm underestimating our recruitment team's powers of persuasion.

I don't think the situations are similar. A goalscorer is more valuable than a defensive midfielder. One has a very reasonable buy out, the other did not.

Pretty much this. Unless we offer obscene wages, I can't see how we can outbid teams. Happy to be proven wrong, but if it does happen I think you will pretty quickly see one or the other not being happy, we are already doing a similar experiment by having two 'keepers who both expect to be first choice.

I can tell you with some certainty, Forest would be able to offer a salary that is more than he is currently earning.

I’m not sure I agree with the DM point.

Guirassy has had just this season where he has scored 15 (plus?) league goals.

11 last season. 10 is his highest in any other season. He’s 28 in March.

He’s a risky signing and likely wasn’t a go to signing for those who like FM. Sangare on the other hand is a stats man’s dream.

If Sangare starts getting 5-10 a season he’ll be worth a hell of a lot more than Serhou (imo).

I'm going to break ranks and say I couldn't give two hoots about signing this player.

He's probably better than Taiwo but as it stands we have Taiwo, Wood and Origi and if we go out for a striker in Jan then i'd imaging it'd be for a Murillo/Danillo type talent.

I would much rather we put the money towards another winger than get another striker. Our current 3 are fine IMO.

Last season, he scored 11 goals in 22 games in a seriously struggling side that only just avoided relegation by beating Hamburger SV in the two-legged play-off.

This season he’s bagged 15 - so far - in a team playing significantly better football.

He’s a goal every-other-game striker. And that’s why he’s got so many interested in him.

(That said of course, I’d be absolutely delighted were he to go nowhere at all in January).

What about Serhou's Stuttgart mate Silas? We were linked with him at one point iirc.
No, no, absolute bobbins, only has one leg, can’t beat an egg and couldn’t hit a cows‘ arse with a banjo. *

Absolutely agree. Actually goal scoring shouldn’t be an issue if they get opportunities. Having world class creative players unlocks the goals, people have calmed down a bit with Chris Woods.. he can also score, no issue

Yet with Rennes, who were top 6 during his time there, he scored one in every 3 or 4 games.

I’m not doubting he’s talented (and / or your opinion), but he’s so far been one in two for 1.5 seasons.

My point was more in line with his projected value and that he is somehow unattainable to us. Whereas in my view, he is the type of striker we’d go for, as opposed to bigger teams who usually go for younger players (with an earlier in their career breakout season) or more consistent players.

The other point was his value compared to a DM, is that Sangare has just turned 25. So, you’d assume Guirassy has a lower ceiling, based on his age and overall performance.

Stuttgart Airport closed, after a bomb-threat was phoned in by someone using strangely-accented German, concluding with „for f***’s sake“…
