It's a static QR code (which in 2026 for something like this is ludicrous)

It's on your phone as a convenience only.

It'll work off a piece of paper.
Hell, you could stencil it on the side of a swan and scan that and it'd let you in.
You might get a funny look off the turnstile operator but a QR code is just a QR code.

Rolling ones are nothing hugely special either.
Depending on your level of sophistication, on the device (your phone) you can simply append the UNIX time to the qr's content ( the QR base content is a plain number in NFFC Season Tickets's case) and cause that timestamp number to be refreshed every 30 seconds at 00 and 30 past the minute, and then re-code and display the new QR.
The scanner sees the base QR number, and the UNIX time appended on the end - checks if the timestamp is valid against the current time, then strips that timecode out and reads the base QR code and allows you access.

There are other ways of making rolling QRs but fundamentally a QR code is just a QR code.

If they want to get technical then they'd put a camera or two in the turnstile area and grab your biometrics and tie that to the season ticket. That'd tell 'em immediately if the regular person is the person scanning, but I think there might be just the tiniest bit of pushback against that.

A static QR code is ripe for problems.
Next time you're in the queue at the turnstiles, look around and see how many people round you have their phone showing the QR code full screen, nice and bright...
I bet you could photograph it.
It's just a static QR code.
That photograph is someone else's season ticket.
Valid for the whole season.
But if you get to the turnstile first with that code, you're in.
Or you can sell it. And it's THEIR problem not yours.
A simple rolling code stops that in less than 30 seconds.


Assuming Forest and Forest ticketing are reading these boards (we know you do...good morning!), you could maybe have a think about this.
Static code for 8 months, 19 instances...daft. Make it a rolling one. Or make it re-code after each game at the very least.

Given we're in what, year 3 of digital cards?, and at least 10% of people going into the ground still faff around with finding their QR code at the gate and take f***ing ages to get in, I'd rather we didn't go down a rolling QR card only entry as these people are at risk of self combustion if we do.

Very much like the people who get on the bus and are surprised that they'll need to find something with which to pay their fare.

In the old season ticket books there was always a coupon to complete and hand in when the time came to renew for the following season. In the 1992/93 edition (inaugural Premier League season), the coupon invited us to renew for 1993/94 Football League season. Sadly, very prophetic.

Flew out to Faro this morning from EMA, a family of 6 got the security barriers where you scan you boarding pass then decided to start looking for them blocking off 2 gates. There should be an open season on people who do that.

When one of our group couldnt make a game he would give it too one of us so it could be used by someone else. One day after I had someone elses tickets I drove past the ground and managed to get the stub number for that match, I decided to take it out and keep it safe. The carnage that ensued when he got there and realised he didnt have said stub was brilliant, he went to the tocket office and kicked off which added to the entertainment, needless to say he didn’t see the funny side but all of us after that would check which vouchers were in our STs when handing them over to someone else
 
So I went to buy a car from a dealer, paid up and drove away. The car gets used as I require it. Just had a message from the dealer who says if I don't use it more often they'll take it away. Given I've paid for it it seems a little out of order tbh.

Honestly?

Yes. It is. They're not asking you to ensure you physically make it to every game. Just that if you can't do so, let someone else have the seat. Better yet, you get credit back if you offer it up for resale. And it's only a problem if you fail to do so 5 times - so over 25%.

For my taste they could have made the threshold 3 games it would have been fine.

It does rather contradict the "record breaking" 30,000+ attendances
 
Forwarding assuming unchanged from last season is no cost (but think you need a paid membership to receive the ticket not just a client ref)

It depends.
I passed my wife’s on a couple of times, she is a Senior citizen, so the member had to pay the difference between Senior and adult SC rate - £10 per game

This is the thin end of the wedge which, in a couple of years' time will limit you to (x) number of listings or forwardings per season before the Club deem that you're not loyal enough in your own right to deserve a season ticket and it gets rescinded.

I don't think so. Once we have increased capacity the club won't give a shit if you've paid to renew and not turned up.

I think they also have the season or two reduced capacity in mind. I wouldn't expect them to resell the revoked SCs straight away. Rather max the return as full price tickets.
 
If you offer your ticket on the exchange and it doesnt sell, do you have to turn up ?

The more that get listed on the exchange the better as far as the club is concerned so I can't see them doing that.

Club would make more money selling the seat individually game by game.... Problem for the club is too many of its good seats are held by pesky season ticket holders. If only they could introduce some way of getting rid of a few.....
