Scouts at today's game.

Apparently, there were scouts from Spurs, Man City and Everton, amongst others at the game today.

Supposedly there to see Connor Wickham but I wonder if Lewis is catching anyone's imagination?

If he carries on like this he will be gone in January without a doubt because if he can maintain this form long term he needs to be in the Premier League. Can't see him at Spurs because they have so many quality central midfielders.

We'd need at least £6million for him, at the moment he is better than Jenas was at Forest. Really hope we keep him and he plays for us in the Premiership.

Anyone know how many years mcgugan has left on his forest contract? If its 2 years or so id suggest we sit him down very soon; clubs will come sniffing very soon if they arent already.

Hmmm. Not sure about that mate. Jenas was only 16 or 17 and was a class above. Lewis has done brilliantly so far this season but is still given a free role because there is doubts about his ability to play in the centre especially as part of a 4 man midfield. I thought he was out of contract in the summer but I'd be very happily proved wrong.

Thing about Lewis is he doesn't do anything but score long range goals.

Premiership teams won't give him the space to shoot from distance so he'll be effectively doing nowt, nor can you have a passenger in your own team in the Premiership.

He's doing brilliantly at the moment, but he won't keep up this scoring record forever. He's not worth anywhere near £6m - that's laughable. Try £1.5m absolute tops.

£1.5m is nonsense. For a free scoring midfielder who is only 21. If we accepted that I would not watch for the rest of the season. Look at players in this league who have sold to Premiership teams. If Chopra is worth £5million then Lewis is worth a lot more.

thanks for spoiling a good result with this talk of lewis leaving......

My point is still valid.

He's only been a free scoring midfielder for 8 games. He won't continue to score almost a goal every game, if he does, THEN he may be worth £6m, maybe.

Did you see his suicidal cross field pass which Ipswich nearly scored from?

Did he do anything else all game but score from a free kick?

I'm not slating him, he's been excellent and the reason why we're not lower down the table, but £6m is utter nonsense for a player who has been sitting on the bench for 2 years.

As it stands, he isn't worth anything above £1.5m.

He`s worth what a prem club are prepared to pay for him. Forest can slap whatever price tag they like on him, don`t make him worth that til the cheque clears.

Well , McGugan might be playing for a new contract but he's the only midfielder cum striker we have except for Earnie who isn't actually afraid to shoot and has the ability to make space for himself.

Fair enough he has been on the bench for two years but that dosn't matter. Whilst he has sat on the bench he has had massive potential and frustrated every one. Now he is realising that potential. That makes him worth money.

If you check my post I said "if he carries on like this" he will be worth 6million.

McGugan still plays the game like he's on pro evo or something. He has a lot of talent both in terms of shooting and passing, but it's hard to get him to show it in anything more than glimpses. However, it's quite reassuring that he can score so many goals in such a short space of time without ever, IMO, putting in a performance for more than minutes at a time. It also shows, again IMO, how much more talent he has than many of the players at this level.

He has, he's just not been used as one.

And he won't keep scoring, but nobody does really. No reason why he can't crack on and get at least 15 this season though, which would be a great amount for any forward player.

Robbie's point is valid; the reason Lewis hasn't been playing consistently for the last couple of seasons is that he either doesn't want to, or can't do the bread-and-butter things a central midfielder does; like tackling back and breaking up opposition attacks.

To me, having watched him come in to the team over the last few seasons, his best position is going to be a 'free' role just off the forward(s), where he doesn't have defensive responsibility and can just create havoc where he wants.

Billy has played him wide left and wide right in the last two matches, to minimise the amount of defending he needs to do.

If he can keep this form up,we have a sign of how good a player Lewis can be, and we need to tie him down to a new deal ASAP

But surely the point is that Lewis is NOT a bread and butter central midfielder is he? People for some reason seemed to think he is, despite him clearly not being one. Things like heading, tackling and tracking are clearly not things he is good at and he shouldn't be expected to excel at them in a regular CM position, like we don't expect Earnshaw to win headers or Tyson to be any good with his right foot.

I'll admit Lewis didn't work as hard before, but with him defending from an advanced position, which he has done well, also means when we win the ball back, he is already further up the pitch where he can do damage. Before he was nearer our own box than the oppositions, which was where we were going wrong with him.

Also of note, Cohen playing from slightly deeper today worked a treat and he made some fantastic runs from the centre... his best position by far. I've criticised in the past, but it was a nice little change of tactics from Billy.

But this is my point; when playing 4-4-2, Billy isn't going to pick Lewis over (for example) McKenna, Majewski, Cohen or Moussi, players whose all-round game has a little of everything.

I really think Billy knows what a talent he potentially has in Lewis, so what he does is tactically create a formation that allows us to utilise him to get the best of his undoubted talents, whilst surrounding him with players who can do the tackling, running, fetching and carrying that is needed, leaving Lewis free to do what he does best - creating havoc for the opposition.

If that is indicative of a new approach from Billy, or it's just that Lewis has laid off the pies and knuckled down a bit, then we are certainly seeing the benefits of it this season, and long may it continue!

They were Nigerian scouts here for Bamberdele, hes gonna do a roger milla and play for his country in a world cup at 42!

Lewis' contract runs out next June.

He's worth bugger all unless he gets an extension.

Litttle f***ers should be in the woods or washing cars or on a roller coaster eating a wimpy not at our ground. Scouts out

Im sorry but this is just blinkered non-sense. At the club he is the best crosser of a ball, the best free kick taker, the best corner taker (although non are too good at that) and the second best finisher behind Earnshaw. I dont think I've ever seen him miss a 1 on 1. I would emplor you to look back on all the goals he's scored and I can assure you that theyre not all long range. At least 5 will be him with his back to goal, turning a defender then passing it beyond the keeper.

If he keeps this up till January, and maintains the effort and fitness then a player like him will be worth a lot. If Perch was worth £1.5 then Lewis can easily be worth double that if not more.

This about a player many were happy to see shipped out at the start of the season...

It's called keeping your feet on the ground. Yes, he's done well recently, but that doesn't make him this all encompassing midfielder, far from it. Again, he's only played eight games - you need at least 25 to get a full picture of a player.

Please tell me what he did yesterday but score? And against Boro, and all the other games? Yes, I realise those were winning goals and I'm delighted, but once he stops scoring he's a passenger. He has so much of his other game to improve before he can justify any such price tag and or deserve a place in the top league.

His suicidal ball which Ipswich nearly scored from has gone quietly ignored by everyone here. Had they scored that it'd have been 1-1...

He'll be worth next to nothing in January because he's out of contract in June. McGugan is potentially an excellent player. He's the best finisher at the club (and I include Earnshaw in that assessment). He's one of the few players who dares to shoot from outside the box (and is frequently rewarded for it). He is a game changing talent but also has the physical attributes to compete in games. Unfortunately, he's only starting to show it now, and because of that, the ball is very much in his court and not Forest's. Forest, as a not particularly pro-active club, don't seem to be trying to remedy that.

I thought he was very good against Borough, he didn't do anything amazing but he didn't stop running and linked up with Bertrand very well.
