It's good to see a winger continously take on his marker. Mendes always wanted the ball, and when he got it he headed straight forward. He never looked to pass it back, always side or forward.

Ok then. You're a WUM. I've spoken a lot about football the last few days.
You see, in recent weeks I have apologised to Hermz, Otis, Alf and others because I genuinely misquoted or misinterpreted things that had been said. You still haven't admitted you were wrong with your accusation about me and I know you won't either.
On the back of a great victory you choose to call me names at the first opportunity. Congrats. I like conversing with some people on here, even some with a different viewpoint, but my primary reason for being on here is to talk about football, not to engage in slanging wars with idiots.

Defensively lazy? The most ridiculous statement I have ever read. He always runs his socks of offensively and defensively. Sorry but if you are not happy with the amount of effort he puts in then don't bother going to matches.
He's incredibly hard working and is consistently shattered after 75 mins because he works so hard.
Direct flair players don't usually have work rate, but he works easily as hard as Jamie Mackie and is four times the player he is on the ball.
Would love him to sign.

If true then that's a good deal.
For me C Burke days are numbered, Pato will be gone also at the end of the season, The likes of O Burke, Osborn,Ward and hopefully Mendes should be enough cover for the wings.
I would move on C Burke,Fox,Wilson,Reid,Fryatt,Lars,Pato,Dex and Lansbury in the summer if we can.
We would need to replace Lansbury with a quality CM that goes without saying.
We would also need to look at some cover for the full backs (youth players ?)
And we need a decent front man. Britt and Walker are going to need support, If we can get Oliveria then we may be sorted up front.
It's not lack of effort, he ran his socks off, it was more not bothering to put tackles in against their full back on numerous occasions last night. Several times he let him run past him or cut in. Luckily, his final ball was woeful and our defense was solid.
It was pointed out numerous times on Sky, it's not just my opinion. Too many times yesterday he let his man run straight past him unchallenged.

I think taking a player turning and going the other way as "not bothering to put a tackle in" is a massive stretch. You could say the same about Vaughan, Williams and Lansbury who frequenlty let Derby players turn and run towards our defence. For once, team mates covered each other and helped each other out, thanks to the balanced way we were set up, so this wasn't such a problem.
And I wouldn't take stats as gospel truth but I probably would take more notice of them than what Sky championship level pundits have to say...
4 tackles, 3 interceptions, 1 clearance, 3 fouls. Heat maps show he was the most defensively active of the wide players on the pitch as well as playing across the line up front too.
Going foward he had 92% pass completion, 2 unsuccessful dribbles, 2 accurate long balls out of 3... it was his forward dribble and cross ball which found Ward that led to the goal.

Great player for me. He almost guarantees you 30yds per carry. It dont always happen for him in the final third, but Williams will help with that.

I still like him, works hard and has done a job. Would I pay a fee for him? No. Would I sign him on a free and pay him less than 10k a week? Yes.
As a squad player I think there's a place for him. Can do a job pulling tired defences out of position and creating gaps. His final ball and decision making is woeful though. Not done enough for me. I think there are players in the lower leagues who could do the same for a lot less (wage wise).

Looks to me like a player who isn't being given what he needs around him. Probably a devastating attacking outlet if you play a side tailored to his strengths. It's dangerous to be set up as a one-man team admittedly, but in the championship players you can get cheaply aren't going to be adept at fitting into specific systems, however otherwise talented they may be. Players who can do that attract Premiership interest, because those clubs value rapid acclimatisation more highly, in accordance with the stakes. Plus in the Prem, lower league clubs will demand more from you than they'd demand from Forest.
I think if you get two or three attacking players who care good at certain situations and then play everyone outside the defence to facilitate those situations, you stand a chance of carving up a league. Maybe if Mendes can be given a simple set of instructions
No call - shoot without hesitation. Just kick the f***ing thing.
Hear a call - Oliveira will, on pain of substitution, be in a specific place to receive the ball. Give him it. If he can't advance the attack, two other players are briefed to be there for the lay-off.
Up to the moment where his decisions have been made binary and made for him, he can do whatever classy shit he likes.
Though he may have been called outdated towards the end of his career, with coaches sneaking the players dossiers on the opponents... Brian Clough preached that Football was a simple game and the argument now is that these days, it isn't. Well, maybe so but not all the talented footballers are receptive to complication. That's no reason not to have them in your side.
