He will need to move to get game time because Forest have finally outgrown him.

He's probably going to end up at a Championship team.

That will bring a certain grim satisfaction to a number of people who will nod sagely and tell us that they always said 'he isn't good enough'.

They will never admit they were wrong when they were actually talking about top half of League 1 and not top half of the Premier League.

He's lived the dream of many Forest fans and we should celebrate that.

Instead of which, jealousy seems to eat so hard at some that they can't wait to put him down at the slightest opportunity.

I'll freely admit he has achieved far more than I ever thought he would. I also think the way some have treated him is nothing short of disgraceful.

Yep, the Red Side of the Trent podcast guys would love to see the back of Ryan Yates. Don't waste an opportunity to put him down after a misplaced pass 🤔

Should be a nailed on starter when playing bottom half clubs at home.

Midfield has been boring at the CG for 13 months, none of them offer any forward threat despite being nice on the ball. Same problem when Anderson and Sangare were the pairing as this current iteration. Yates is technically inferior, but can cause chaos around and inside the box.

He's good at controlling the ref too.

Glasner said on the post-match interview that he's still learning about the squad. Well, he needs to learn the lesson that every other manager learns and improves by. Yates needs to play. He doesn't have to start every game. It can be situational, but it's absolutely wild how little we now value one of the key team members that helped us finish seventh and looked like we were going to finish even higher when he was playing.

If Yatesy got called up for England, he'd some how make every squad until the end of his career and play like 50 times. Just coming on at the end of games to see out a victory, im convinced of it.

A lack of testicular fortitude has been mentioned with this team by fans and on the podcasts, so here's some pattern recognition post deciding we are better than a relegation battling team.

Dropping Yates around April 2024 was one of the most baffling decisions of recent times in my book, and there have been many baffling decisions. He was great the season we finished in Europe.

I think we need him now. We’re desperate for some in-game management on the field, someone being a bit more street-smart, dirty and cynic. Someone to be in the ref’s ear and someone to get into oppositions heads, wind them up and rattle them.

If Milenkovic is out I’ll be tempted to use him in the middle of the 3 he can then step up and make it a 433 if needed, or maybe we should stick him in midfield and go 352?

He's exactly what we're missing, especially now that Anderson is gone, a truly dynamic number 8 but just as importantly an actual leader on the field and disruptor of the opposition.
I think that EM possibly told MGW he would always be the on-field captain if he stayed and signed a contract extension.
And I also think all the managers have had their hands tied over that decision.
Does that present a bit of a difficulty in having both the club captain, and the on-field captain starting a game?
Have they both started PL games since MGW signed the contract extension?
If so, who wore the captain's arm band?

Morgan has always handed-over the armband when Ryan has come on as a sub, which seems utterly pointless to me, irrespective of Yatesy being 'club captain' or not.

Good question. I can't recollect entirely but there was at least one game last term I think where Yatesy and MGW were both on the pitch and MGW retained the armband.

I think it's silly whenever it happens. The fact your club captain isn't almost an automatic starter takes some thinking about, but then I guess there's still the aspect that a leader in the squad doesn't need to be playing to still be a leader. But I think the on field captain should only give the armband up when they're subbed off, but in reality it doesn't matter too much, it's the players and the rest of the club who should decide.

I'm not really sure Morgan is captain material anyway, he's not obviously leader material like Yatesy or Niko are (and probably a few others) on the pitch. But again, club's choice (by the same token, I don't really like keepers or strikers being captains, either, it seems to look better with a central player).

I understand that Yates has come on as a sub (and seen the armband change hands.
I can't recal whether they have actually started a PL game together since summer 2025.
Newcastle away last season. Yates only started two Premier games, the other being Chelsea away when MGW came on at half time. They also started a few of the Europa games together.

I think Yayesy has been unfortunate not to get more minutes than he has. I can think of plenty of games I’d have brought him on. But then again I could say same for Dominguez.
They’ve both got a part to play, their time will come. Just takes a couple of injuries and they suddenly are the first XI midfield. Squads got to stay together.
