He's already achieved more than most footballers ever will, even if he'd like to play more minutes why would he want to go and get them somewhere else at this point? He's club captain for a club that he'd run through brick walls for, and he gets paid a fortune for the privelege. If anything he'd likely be taking a pay cut to go and get minutes at a club that means nothing to him, look how that went for his good friend Worrall

He's basically living his dream here, and the club benefits from his leadership and overall influence on the squad off the pitch. Not to mention he's still very much in the mix and has plenty to offer on the pitch

It's hard for me to disagree with you. Despite his undoubted loyalty to NFFC, the prospect of another season as a fringe player (and the regular farce of him taking the captain's armband when he comes on in the 80th-minute despite Morgan almost always still being on the pitch) in my opinion can't be appealing to Yatesy at this stage in his career.
 
He definitely has the ability though. I want to wait and see what Glasber actually thinks of him as the season develops.

He does things our other players cannot/do not do, and hes very good at those things.

Getting shots in target from outside the box. Getting down the wings and crossing/being an active part of attacking moves. Winning dirty free kicks to take the pressure off the team in vital moments. Acting as an extra full back if we're struggling down one wing. Leading the press when we have momentum by stepping into the attacking midfield zone.

This guy's technical ability is sadly underestimated and I think it always will be, because his first touch isn't great, but I think it's crazy when people insist he isn't good enough for our team.

I’m not suggesting he isn’t good enough. But he has started 2 games last year and likely has an even bigger logjam of midfielders in the squad (with fewer games to play).

Of course, maybe Glasner really fancies him more than the rest of our managers but ultimately he’s going to be one of 5 players (minimum), possibly 6, fighting for two spots in the team. Sangare and Schlager are almost certainly ahead of him. Nico probably is, Glasner seems to fancy McAtee in the deeper two and then we are clearly still trying to bring in another (Bergvall et al). No europe this year either. Realistically, there’s a good chance he barely sees the pitch, and won’t start more than last year.

If he has a PL team offering him a much better opportunity to start and actually play football then at this stage of his career he would be absolutely mad not to at least pick up the phone. And I’m sure as a club we would do the right thing by him if he said he wanted to leave.

I think the logjam is difficult to predict at this point.

The recent articles emanating from the clubs preferred journos at the training camp suggested that OG will be looking to run with a senior squad of "about 20" - which if taken at face value means we're likely to see about 8 players leaving even before accounting for any further incomings.

Some of those are easy to predict - Abbott, Bindon, and Moreira on loan. Omar Richards on loan or free. Kali probably sold. But there's still likely to be several outgoings that catch fans by surprise and that could well include Dominguez (and/or Yates).
 
All I'd say, is that if I was approaching the latter part of my footballing career and I'd been settled and happy at a Premiership club for all that career and as captain now, the last place on earth I'd think about moving to play is Ipswich.

I kind of get Yates going to a club abroad where it's a bit like an extended holiday, weather-wise and lifestyle-wise, but Ipswich? Nah.
 
You are wasting your time even debating it fellas.

Nobody will pay enough for him to leave & unless he plays 3 games next season, he won't want to leave.

Yates has a lovely niche here, it wouldn't work elsewhere

I think this depends on his personal priorities.
Ar this stage in his career he has a real opportunity to be a one club player. This is incredibly rare these days and automatically confers legendary status.
 
A couple of years ago he had ambitions to play for England. If he’s still in that mindset a move and regular football might appeal.

Lets face it, how he gets played will result in him extending his playing career unless he gets a freak injury. Plus his definately going to be kept on as part of the team/ coach when he does hang up his boots.

Yes, it would be horrible to see him captaining someone like Leeds to an FA Cup win! We don’t want another Wes Morgan situation, although the club are in a much better place than when we had to sell The Major Oak to the bin dippers. The ups and downs of football hey…..or in Leicester’s case, the downs and downs. Having said that “There for the grace of Brian go I”

I think 'very good' PL player is a stretch but he's certainly proven he can play at this level. He's never going to dominate games but it's rare that he's embarrassed either.

Ultimately we finished 16th and he barely started for us last season, even under Dyche who I was convinced would love a player like Yates.

I'd be happy if he wanted to stay but could certainly understand if he wanted to leave to play more and one of the promoted clubs seems about right for what he brings.

It would leave us with Sangare, Dominguez, Schlager then presumably a new signing. Add McAtee maybe to the list and it looks sufficient to me.
 
Given home grown Abbot and Yates are effectively bonus players as far as squad limitations are concerned, it seems likely we’d want to keep them.

The season we finished 7th, Yates was better than Sangaré was last season when we finished 16th. We also looked better on the eye as a team. When Yates gets up to speed he can be a very good player and a bigger goal threat than Sangaré and Dominguez.

All in my opinion course.
