I had the exact same thought this morning walking the dog. Got to think a promoted team may look at him and think he could help them and if you are Yates off the back of a couple of league starts this season it’s got to be tempting at his age

I get the feeling that he's living his dream playing at this level with Forest, even as a bit part player. I could see him moving on once he approaches the 30+ twilight years but not yet.
 
Thought his cameo yesterday was pretty poor to be honest. Probably his worst 45 minutes of football in years for us.

Think he stays with us though as just can't imagine many other clubs at this level making him a first choice. Maybe someone like Coventry or whoever gets promoted through play-offs would, but chances are he'd be back in the Championship within a year.

Always a chance a new manager here fancies him as first choice, however unlikely (thought Dyche would be the one if it was going to be anyone).
 
I think that if Anderson departs as expected - it wouldn't make sense to lose him in this upcoming transitional season unless Ryan wants to go or the player(s) we bring in are so obviously streets ahead. There is also the underlying element that he sets the standard in training. I really hope he becomes a one club legend. When you think how much game time we wasted on Douglas Luiz this year it might be different next time out.
 
He's outperformed Remo Freuler, Andrey Santos, James Ward-Prowse & Douglas Luiz in each of the past 4 seasons, he'll probably outperform whoever we get to be 4th choice CM next year too. I hope he's happy playing cup games and coming off the bench, but he's better than some people think, even if his upper peak is bottom third of the Prem. Much rather have him on the bench than someone like Orel Mangala (who people loved?!?) or another waste of £5m like JWP/DL.

He's like the ravens at the Tower of London, the day he leaves we are f**ked.
 
Just to reiterate, my post wasn't about whether the club want to keep him. I don't think there's any doubt that Forest are more than happy to have him. It's about what Ryan wants at this stage of his career. At this point he's already lived his dream of playing for his boyhood club and featuring in the premier league and Europe as well as scoring goals in them.

Everyone is different but personally at 28 years old I wouldn't want to be sat on the bench week in week out when I've already lived my dream.
 
The thing about Yatesy though is, honestly, what more can he do but what he does? Don't me wrong he's great at it but the question of moving elsewhere is what would they offer him (ok more money maybe) but the chance to do what he does but without the adulation of the fans and the emotional attachment to the club.

With all due respect to him it's not like he's shown he can be a great freekick taker or add long range passing to his game or regularly score more goals. They know his game backwards at Forest and if he had shown in training that he could do that they'd surely give him the chance to. But he is what he is (Natalie) and long may he continue to do it in the Garibaldi he clearly loves so much.
 
Even if he doesn't play much he still has a role to play in my opinion. We need a squad and he can do a job in cup games. Thinking long term he is also useful for squad depth if we qualify for Europe again. We will most likely see a big turnover in players again this summer, and our main priority should be to improve as much as possible on the first 11 and 3-4 subs as possible, not to make changes further down the list.

A promoted club would offer him guaranteed starts and, if they had any sense, the club captaincy.

And a very, very likely a route back to the Championship on lower wages, not an attractive offer in the medium/long term.

Funny I was going to post the same thing. There would be plenty of offers from lower-midtable prem teams and Yates hasn't been a regular really since Cooper times. He may feel he wants to be the main man elsewhere and could go this summer with our blessing

Yates started more than 30 games in the Premier League last season and we looked a great team for the most part. Played less in April and May.

Just like Burnley offered guaranteed starts to Joe Worrall?

If anything, I think Joe's story makes it very, very unlikely that Ryan leaves. He's seen his mate take that course and it's just led to a different bench that next year will be back in the Championship. I think Ryan will be very happy with what his career looks like here myself. He's guaranteed to be on the bench at least in every game if he's fit (the homegrown record and all that) and he regularly comes on and makes a contribution. There is nothing to suggest that the Coventrys of this world would guarantee him a starting place and his leadership here as club captain means something too.

There's virtually no chance he's going anywhere in my view.
 
If he wants more football then he'll have to go down to The Championship and no one will match his wages there.

I think it suits both parties that he stays with NFFC.

He's a good egg and Forest to the core.

There's a simple reason, he can't get into our team right now.

I doubt any established Premier Team would take him, and Leeds and Sunderland seem well covered. So it's either hang around here, join a newly promoted side or find an upwardly mobile Championship team. My guess is he'll stick with option one.
 
Talking of the US, in Baseball, there’s a position in the team where there are specialist pitchers who are experts at closing games out, so, they’re brought in to shut-down opposing teams when their side is ahead.

Ryan Yates is the football equivalent of a Baseball „Closer“. And he’d be a brilliant option to have for that.
