Ross Wilson - ex-Chief Football Officer

When @Dogtits (I miss Scarpa) (most awesome nickname ever) isn't sending me dick-pics, he's informing me of the signings which Wilson made in his first year at Rangers...

u3dJFf0.png

So I had a quick look around to see what they're doing now a small handful of years later...
  • Barjonas got loaned out to 4 different clubs then sold to Kelty Hearts
  • Simpson played 9 games then moved to Cardiff
  • Scott Wright is seen as a Championship level player, and someone who'd not taken his chances (-- Unreliable source --/...uture-at-rangers-after-sources-reveal-expert/)
  • Zungu now plays for the Mamelodi Sundowns
  • Itten scored 5 goals in 33 games and moved to Young Boys after a loan spell at Greuther Furth
  • Roofe is obviously a great success, with 25 goals in 48 games for Rangers now
  • Balogun is now at QPR and has only featured in 13 games this season
  • Bassey was a club record sale to Ajax at 20m
  • McLaughlin's still there and made 10 appearances this season
  • Middleton had 4 loan spells and was sold to Dundee
So 2 great signings, 1 decent cover signing, 7 duds.

Make of that what you will, but I personally would like someone a better hit rate and a focus on a higher caliber of player.

There can be no doubting that Roofe and Bassey were very strong signings though.
Shirley, you can't be serious?

Daniel Taylor reporting Ross Wilson is the man Forest want to replace the sacked Giraldi:

As Giraldi has been banished to the „Ex-players“ forum, here is a thread for everyone to point out this will be either:

a) an unmitigated disaster, as many Rangers fans seem to be insisting, or,

b) some kind of unexpected success.

Discuss.
We had our unexpected success last season so that's it for another 23 years I'm afraid.

It's probably worth looking at what he did at Southampton and Rangers separate to supporter opinion as well.

He started at Southampton in March 2015 when Ralph Kreuger was Chairman. 15/16 season they finished 6th, 16/17 finished 8th, then it starts going downhill 17/18 they finished 17th and then 18/19 they finished 16th. Also got through a few managers in that time Koeman, Puell, Pellegrino, Hughes and Hassenhuttl. But there was also a bit of turbulence behind the scenes with Kreuger stepping down as Chairman. In the transfer window during that time period Southampton made around a £10m profit.

Left for Rangers and obviously oversaw them winning the title with Gerrard and reaching the Europa League final, again in the time he's been there Rangers have made around a £5m profit on transfer fees.

The reason I included the profit in the transfer market is because you have to wonder whether that was expected of him? In which case it's always gonna be tough to progress in the Premier League if the ownership wants sustained profit in the transfer window and I'd argue it's the same if you're trying to win a two horse race up in Scotland, so there's no telling how much he had his hands tied in that regard.

Also, for all the hate he's getting from supporters, it seems people who are working in the game rate him as quite an impressive person. If it's between him doing the job or Marinkais Jr. then I know who I'd prefer but he needs to be given time and total trust to implement his way of doing things, Marinakis can't afford to not do that with another Sporting Director.

Good points there from Heff, you would have to assume EM will be the most ambitious person he’s worked for so far.

Now he has a budget to work with he could be completely different, let’s just see what happens. He’s not even been appointed yet and if he is shit he won’t last long as I’ve already said.

You could argue EM is too ambitious at times with how twitchy he can get.

There is no reason to believe that Leicester and Southampton will suddenly find form so there is a good chance that we can survive this season because I still think there are 3 teams worse than we are

Call it ambition or recklessness or even cluelessness it has to change; the tone towards the ownership has shifted on social media over the last week or so, more and more questions being asked. You add that to what's probably coming with Gaz Braz which will make even more people fed up. Marinakis has to start getting things a lot more right than he has been doing.

Thanks for providing a properly-researched observation Josh.

Losing Brazil would piss me off more than losing anybody else at the club.

Without his work we wouldn’t be where we are currently.

I can only apologise for my ignorance, but how accurate is "Forest Watch"?

Or, more specifically, Peter O'Rourke?

A shit load more money available if a miracle happens and we stay up.
I think we all agree that spending a load of money (Probably on a load of players) is a hugely successful strategy, you only have to look at us and Chelsea to see that.

Could save a bit of money by flying down the flurry of Newcastle reserves that we are about to sign using one jet though.

Thats all well and good unless this is a pre-cursor to Gerrard coming in. If that's the case he can feck right off along with any other moron who might be pushing for the same thing.

Cooper is still the man, and will continue to be next season whichever league we're in.

Good post, however, in summary, at the level we want him to operate, he took an established Premier League Club from 6th to 16th whilst selling assets of which £10m went into the owners pockets.

Please forgive me for being a little less than enthused about the possibility of him pitching up Trentside.

I get you may not be happy with what we currently have but I don't think the above is any better to be honest.
