Whilst I agree, it's based upon the premise that they loaned him as a first team player and he's feature in cameos. One game isn't going to significantly impact his development either positively or adversely
True, though I believe we are trying to win that match, and no matter how much potential he has I'd rather Wood get the start (hopefully breaking his hoodoo against his old club), get whatever minutes Taiwo needs for his rehab and give the kid twenty or so down the right again, assuming we plan to keep him.

And really, my point is more that if we're buying him for the future they will already have ran the rule over him, made the decision and Saturday would have no bearing on that either way.

(And we may not even be buying him - it may have been a 'take a look at this kid and see if you can use him' affair - we were desperate for forward options. Thank goodness Woody stayed fit.)

The sensible thing would be to give the kid a game up front at the weekend. See what he can do then.

Yeah and the clamour for Sangare to start as well.

I don't think Nuno will risk it, he'll go full strength with maybe Taiwo being given the game off. His career would never recover if the unthinkable happened because he fielded an experimental side.

I would definitely be starting him and Sangare. One to see what he can do. One to get another game under his belt and hopefully change the narrative around him going into the break

You're only as good as your last game. For that reason I can only see Nuno playing his strongest side, as defeat to a relegated Burnley would leave a pretty sour taste in the mouth for the rest of the summer.

I'm sure he couldn't really care less about the development potential of two bit part players, especially if losing this as an indirect result of playing a weaker team ended up being the final nail in the coffin.

I agree Nuno really could do with a win.

Best thing to do with Ribeiro I think is to bung Sporting another 500k to loan him again next year and knock it off the agreed purchase price.

Gone back and we haven't picked up the buy option

Bit of an odd one but clearly didn't do enough to impress.

I am not shocked as if he was doing well in training he would have got more of a look in - young player not ideal for a relegation fight but still had Nuno felt he was good enough we would have seen more of him you would think.

We have to be realistic and if a striker is needed we need one who is already established, not a 19year old trainee.
Problem is, you can't realistically add a first team striker to the two we already have unless that player can also operate out wide.

We already have nearly 200k a week going on two strikers fighting for one spot.

Good point, but we were paying a reported £85k per week for Divok Origi...

Yes, the point was evident that playing a 18/19 year old kid (I think he's only just turned 19) who is not only inexperienced but also whose potential and ability is not fully known wasn't necessarily a wise thing to do in a relegation battle. Even then striker isn't that much of a low risk position as he could potentially lose the ball in an attacking position and the opposition can quite quickly break from there and create a chance, and that this could cost us points.

Origi might have been shit but it was clear his experience was why he was preferred, and we needed options with Taiwo out and Wood having time out as well as needing to not always be on the pitch.

This kid might well have been low risk but presumably he's still cost something in terms of wage contributions and/or a loan fee

He was never really going to get much game time, and was only signed in case both Awonoyi and Wood got injured.

Even when they both missed the same game we chose Origi.
Yes because of experience. Over 30 Belgium caps, over 100 PL games for Liverpool, 27 in Serie A for Milan... Or an 18 year old boy

Suspect the same reason we loaned the boy was the same reason we didn't send Origi packing in January, we were short on bodies although we probably could have played Osapa-Esong instead of Origi and there wouldn't have been a difference.

MM: "Hey Jorge, we're a bit short on players, you got anyone we can have?"
JM SUPER AGENT: "Fancy a portuguese?"
MM: "Ooooooh, matron. Tell me about him."
JM SUPER AGENT: "He's portuguese, striker, can play wide."
MM: "Wait.. it's not.."
JM SUPER AGENT: "No mate, it's Rodrigo Ribeiro."
MM: "Rodrigo who?"
JM SUPER AGENT: "Rodrigo Duarte Ribeiro"
MM: "Never heard of him."
JM SUPER AGENT: "Whaaaaat? Seriously? 6 appearances for Sporting.. made his debut against City."
MM: "Oh yeah? He score?"
JM SUPER AGENT: "...No.. not quite. He was a 91st minute sub. But I mean, his release clause is 80 million euros so.. he could be yours optionally for 12m, cheaper than what you paid for Carvalho"
MM: "You son of a bitch Jorge, I'm in. "

I said it was a pointless signing at the time and it proved to be that way. I hope the lad got something out of it at the very least.
