Newark. You are damn right about Blake. He formed a great partnership with Lester when he was here and that for me will always be the turning point in our history. The chairman would not fork out the money thay wanted and then we dropped down the league when he left and panicked and spent 3 times as much for Johnson.

Blake was and still is a great player and one of the best players I have seen in the last 10 years wearing a Forest shirt.

I'm not suprised a 33 year old skinned a bottom of League One best center back playing at right back.

Blake wasn't that good when he was with us. Certainly the fans weren't calling for him to be signed. I remember he was a nice bloke always had time for the young fans after a match and always had a professional attitude. A good example for any youngsters coming through at Burnley. Speaking of which has anyone ever read up on when Burnley won the league? Brilliant tale especially in regards to the production of youth talent, had to sell half to operate but still kept enough to be the top team in England.

That was the only time he ever showed a bit of class.

Robbie Blake has always been a f***ing thorn in our side.

Me too!

Blake and Jack Lester were running teams ragged. Although Blake didn't score many he was causing so much trouble for the opposition everyone else was able to cash in.

We wouldn't spend the £350000 it needed to get him. 2 Months later we spent over £2m on DJ.

King was an arse for us, I've seen players that pull out of 50:50 balls but he used to back out of 90:10 balls. Total f***ing waster.

Me too. Although I thought it was closer to £3m for Johnson. This is one of the major mysteries that surrounds Doughties ability as a competent chairman. Refusing to pay £350000 for Robbie Blake who was playing well for us. Then panic buys a £3m player a few weeks later, who bar 1 very good season, proved to be a waste of money.

It wasnt Doughty who bought DJ was it? I thought the club was still under the control of the previous regime but Nigel had invested.

By the way love how you made the plural of Doughty into Doughties. :D

Nigel Doughty became the majority shareholder in 1999. David Johnson was signed in 2001.

Thanks for the Doughties comment ;D. I'm a Doughtee BTW.

But when did he become chairman?

I believe he invested money into the club to buy a first allocation of share and didn't become majority shareholder until after that agreeing to cover the clubs debts. He didn't apoint himself chairman until after this until the previous one resigned. I'm pretty sure he was not chairman when DJ was signed so the decision wouldn't have been his. I have a feeling he became chairman in 2002 but cannot be sure without checking which I'm too lazy to do at the moment.
