Saw him play today in the 0-0 draw with Celtic on Setanta. He was an absolute rock, he won every header, threw himself at everything and is also a great leader. Just what we need. What does everybodyelse think?????

There was quite a lot of comment about him in the Kozluk/Jones/Camp thread :) Largely agreeing with what you wrote :)

Don't watch the SPL but all sounds promising. Here's hoping for some concrete news on the matter once the SPL is done and dusted.

He is. Hibs are my scottish team, as my dad was brought up in Leith and took me to a few games. He's been a rock for the whole season, as well as the season before. (Jones, Not my Dad)

I'd love him to come to Forest he's exactly what we need in terms of leadership and setting an example for the rest of the team with his gutsy performances. Hope this transfer comes about he's quality.

I agree he looks good, but in the scottish prem... Always have reservations about players from the scottish prem. The championship is a step UP from the prem... (apart from rangers and celtic)

They play these teams four times a year in the league, thats 8 games against teams that are able to cut it through the group stages in champions league, or hold their own in the eufa cup. Thats not including cup games either.

The championship is NOT a step up! Are there any teams in our division with fan bases of around 60,000??

(Im not having a go, Im just naturally defensive about Scottish football!

sorry but if you take celtic and rangers out of the league then its like league 2.

as for the fan bases.

have you seen the empty seats at scottish football matches? its embarassing.

Yes but i think you are missing the point with regard to his capabilities.
He was up against both Rangers & Cetic & performed world class, so if he can perform well against the two best teams in Scotland, he can perform week in week out in the Championship.

The SPL is a strange league. As people rightly said, Celtic and Rangers are easily Premiership standard sides, but then the likes of Hibs, Hearts, Aberdeen and Kilmarnock are easily Championship level and could probably cut it in the lower half of the Premiership.

The other sides might not be that great, but Jones seems to be a fantastic player who I sincerely hope we sign.

I think everybody knows about Rob Jones now. I find it unlikely we'll win any battle for his signature!

Mixu leaves Hibs

Looks like he has been forced over the edge !

MIXU PAATELAINEN sensationally quits Hibs as the SPL lose a third manager in five days.

Paatelainen ended his 16-month stint at Easter Road after leading the Hibees into the top six.

Victory over Hearts and two draws with the Old Firm could not convince Paatelainen to carry on.

But his shock departure will be a bombshell for Hibs fans.

SunSport understands budget concerns were at the root of the 42-year-old's decision to go.

He said: "I've enjoyed my time as manager of Hibernian. The club will always hold a special place in my heart.

"However, there comes a time when a change of direction is best for both parties."

Hibs chairman Rod Petrie must now move for the club's fourth manager in less than three years.

He said: "Mixu has been a whole-hearted and committed manager and we are sorry to see him go. But we respect his decision."

Paatelainen's decision shattered Hibees stars.

John Rankin was his first signing as boss and he told SunSport: "This has blown me away, I really don't know what to say.

"I was out cutting the grass when I got a phone call telling me the gaffer had decided to step down. I didn't see it coming.

"Even last week after the game against Aberdeen there was no indication in the dressing room that anything like this was going to happen.

"I don't know where this decision has come from and it is a major surprise to me. I didn't think something like this would happen.

"There was a lot of optimism because of the way we finished the season. We drew with both halves of the Old Firm and beat Hearts at Tynecastle.

"That showed there was potential, depth in the squad and everybody was looking to kick on from that. But this has come as a bolt out of the blue.

"I am very sorry to see Mixu go. He had enough faith in me to bring me to Hibs in the first place and I will always be grateful to him for that."

Ian Murray was also stunned to hear that Paatelainen had quit.

He said: "Of course I am disappointed to see him go. You always are when the manager who signs you makes a decision like that.

"We all left under the impression we'd be back for pre-season so this has come as a surprise."

Former Hibs striker Paatelainen took over from CIS Cup-winning gaffer John Collins in January 2008.

He won just 19 of his 62 games and his reign split the fans.

The ex-Cowdenbeath boss faced calls for his dismissal in the spring before pipping Motherwell to a top-six spot.

His trusted No2 Donald Park left Easter Road just a few days ago for a new role with the SFA.

Now Mixu has also gone after failing to gain the cash backing he craved from the Leith board.

Hibs are set to cash in on Steven Fletcher and captain Rob Jones.

Paatelainen wanted cash for replacements but is believed to have been dissatisfied at the lack of support he's had from the directors.

He becomes the third SPL gaffer to go this week after Jimmy Calderwood was axed by Aberdeen and Gordon Strachan quit Celtic.
