If whoever sniped Elliott from the geordies is picking rico then I have a lot more hope of this working if true.
Parallels can be drawn between them both, young players who even though their clubs had expensively made squads were still able to force themselves into the team in a position that wasn’t even their main role.
Not saying he will be another Anderson but if he’s given the game time and allowed to play he could get close. He’s played a lot more for a better team than Newcastle, he just wouldn’t be getting on the pitch if he wasn’t good enough.

This is an excellent point. If George Syrianus is using his data model to identify these players - then we have a far higher chance of them being successful. No guarantees, but the odds are more on our side.

Blaming Syrianos for the apparent/perceived failure of players we didn't sign is a bit of a stretch.
Lucca was only loaned - thankfully - for a specific reason at the request of a particular manager in a difficult market.
Despite arriving with a decent pedigree and reputation, Ndoye, granted, has been disappointing - although, like Bakwa, he's been impacted by injury. Even then, that's if Syrianos is responsible for signing those two; Wilson was in charge of recruitment at the time.

Not really, they were identified targets but we couldn't complete the deals (luckily)

I don't doubt that like others we were possibly interested in those two, but how invested was the club in actually signing them?

If that is the case that is a fantastic hit rate. I don't think people realise how many signings across the league don't actually come off.
Anyway, Rico Lewis, people are advocating spending about £20-30m on a player we don't even know what position he plays, we have no record of success seeing him play that position for a prolonged period and who has never played outside the 'Pepsphere' of Manchester City. Oh, also after being a Pep darling in 24/25 playing 28 times, he gets shut out this season only making 11 appearances. Add to that he got completely overtaken in the pecking order by O'Reilly and rather than giving him a crack at RB (which people are advocating for him to play here), Pep instead decided to covert a central midfielder and play him there instead.

Given how we've been exposed by injuries in past seasons, having a utility player like Rico Lewis would be valuable.
He's only 21 and has played 70+ PL games as well, at the highest level. Whether he can do it in a side that doesn't dominate the ball every game is another matter, but he looks well worth a punt to me if he's interested.

Appreciate that but without Europe I just don't see the build up of games that justifies carrying utility players in the squad. Personally, I think the 'the floor' of the squad is pretty decent, I think we need to be raising the ceiling and signing players who are going to improve the first 11 (especially if we sell Anderson).

My hesitation about this can be summed up in four letters: Netz. We were able to pick up an excellent, up-and-coming full back for half nothing. Admittedly Lewis has played a lot more top-flight games than Netz had and could thus be said to be further along with his development. But the vast gulf between the prices to be paid for them is a measure of the PL and Man City premiums in the market.
I'm not saying I would not welcome Lewis -- just that we'd need to be sure we weren't paying for the reflected glory of where he's coming from rather than his superiority to similar players from, say, Germany.

At £25m that doesn't feel like a bad deal.
I know signings of players from Europe is exciting, but our best signings have mostly been ones with some PL experience and mostly young.
Ando, Neco, MGW, CHO, Aina, Elanga, Hutchinson (probably best out of last year's lot with Jesus), plus Henderson (on loan) and older signings like Wood and Boly.

£25m seems decent to me. My issue would be the likely wages given he signed a new contract at City last summer. You have to imagine he would be on an amount above what we would want to pay for a player who isn't the main focus of the team.

Indeed, Lewis was a genuine part of the first team squad. Unlike McAtee who got token minutes to make him 'look like' a City first teamer to push his value up.
