Rickie Lambert

Funnily enough I was talking about this fella the other day. His scoring record is excellent this season and would not cost the earth - assuming we offer Brizzle a fee in the summer after a loan deal.

He would be a good short term signing to give us a bit more presence up front.

Would not cost the earth ? I do believe Brizzle is looking at around 750k-1 million as he has been linked with a lot of clubs during the window.

I want a 100k a year job but chances are I will have to settle for less - so may Bristol Rovers.

Are you Mark Arthur in disguise ?! Making desirory bids is his forte. Bristol Rovers have no need to sell , he's their top scorer and also their highest earner who signed a new contract at the start of the season. Was heavily linked for between 750k-1 million during the transfer window.

No way that i can see them selling cheaply.

His overall goalscoring record looks pretty crap to me.

Blackpool: 3 games, 0 goals
Macclesfield Town: 44 games, 8 goals
Stockport County: 98 games, 18 goals
Rochdale: 64 games, 28 goals
Bristol Rovers: 105 games, 39 goals

So he's scored 20 this season? Meaning he scored about 19 in 70 games for Rovers previously.

However, we have goalscorers in our team and Lambert is a tall guy so is probably the kind of player we need up front. Being at another English club, his price to us will be inflated a fair bit!

Whether he can make the step up is debatable , he's grant holt's old partner and Agogo's replacement at Rovers.

Not interested, I don't think he's up to it at this level. Pretty static and gets most of his goals from freekicks. Can't imagine he'd ever get a freekick whilst McGugan's here so can't see what he'd add.

There are better players out there.

So there is no middle ground between derisory and top dollar then? Maybe instead of making cliched remarks about Mark Arthur you could try reading the post properly.

You used words like cheap and derisory, I merely suggested that he is over valued and that lower league clubs rarely get what they want for a player.

He is overvalued but the simple fact is that unless he has a hidden clause in his contract , it's still very much at the discretion of the selling club. We paid 125k to Rovers for Agogo , they then paid 200k for Lambert to replace Agogo.

And considering that he's a highly valued member of their team with a contract that ends in 2011 , unless it's a silly offer , why would they sell ?

I am not saying they would sell, just that they would have to consider an offer of 400k upward as after all, they are an average league 1 side with pretty low gates and limited finances.

Besides, you know what players are like. They decide they want to leave and have a hissy fit if their club refuses, putting the club in an akward position of having one its prize assets not giving 100%.

I think he could make the step up alright. Very good player in my eyes. Good squad player for us.

Doubt it , let's face it , forest aren't as attractive as fans seemed to think they are. If Rovers will to sell , it would be in the summer where there is a lot more bargaining to be done unless they are offered silly money as i said. They are not out of the woods from their division relegation zone , only 5 points. It would be suicidal for them to loan out their top scorer now.

This one could run and run. Probably best that we agree to disagree!

Reason for this is that he's been a midfielder for the majority of his career. Bristol moved him up front and it's worked a charm.

Correct. Although I think it was Rochdale who moved him up front.
