Richie Laryea

Well, maybe he would if he was good enough. No idea if he was even Champ standard to be honest, he looked crap every time I saw him.
I think he played 4 times, did he even start a game? Maybe one. He had a turn of pace and could run it. Other than that who knows if he was good enough. He certainly didn’t get the chance to get minutes and bed in because we made the step up and he quickly became surplus. But I don’t think we can say he was a bad signing.

But by the same logic I don’t think we can say he would have been Spence’s replacement if we didn’t go up as we don’t know if he was up to it.

Was is Laryea who came on in one game in it looked like worrall was just refusing to pass to him every time we came forwards?

Yes, we were winning comfortably too I think. Whole crowd just wanted to see Richie on the ball but Worrall just didn’t want to give it lol.

I think it was his pace and the fact he seemed to be able to carry the ball quite well so you assumed he would be that.

It's likely he would have been or possibly even Fin Back who played vs Boro when Spence couldn't (being on loan from them) and a few games earlier in the season before he was available.

Difficult to say what might have happened with the loan players though if we hadn't gone up Spence would probably still have ended up at Spurs, and Davis would probably still have been too expensive. I think the situation was that Samba would have been off anyway, and though I was never really convinced with Horvath he did get promotion the year after too.

I think Surridge was probably intended to replace Grabban / Davis as the striker in a promotion push the season after and likewise probably Laryea was indeed earmarked to be first choice RB for that too, given that Back was still young (and still is relatively speaking) and unproven (and this hasn't changed much, he's been loaned to Carlisle for the last two seasons, but hasn't had the best luck with injuries). It could even have been considered that Back would be the first team option and if he somehow didn't achieve his promise or if he got injured we had cover in Laryea. I think we still had Drager at the club too who was also a RB.

He came to us for half a season where he was never getting in the team ahead of Spence & then went back to Canada with his tail between his legs

Should have given the European leagues a crack, he is clearly a talented player, shame he’s played almost all his career in the MLS

I would have probably thought that Laryea would have been playing in the side after Spence's loan finished if we hadn't gone up...

I didn’t notice him too much last night, but I watched the second half last week and he was really good. I do think he’d have been decent had we stayed down and he had a pre season.

There was a lot of talk at the time that Middlesbrough were going to recall Spence from his loan. He was brought in as the replacement who we never ended up needing.

Still remember him being brought on for the last 20 minutes or so of a game near the end if the season, he kept bombing up and down the right side trying to get involved but no one would pass him the ball.
It was Worrall, Laryea was free every time - Worrall just refused to pass to him, it was completely bizarre. If I recall people starting boo'ing not passing to him!

Yes that was it, he kept overlapping every time we had possession, the ball went to Worrall and he would look then pass it back inside, it did get quite comedic with the pantomime booing.

I'm sure he's got a good life though. Maybe wonders "what if?" occasionally.

Looks a solid full back, good going forward.
