Retro Transfer Thread

On the basis that theres nothing going on at Trentside for us to get excited about on the transfer front, I thought we could perhaps instead rekindle the excitement of yesteryear by announcing some exclusive signings.

Call it LTLF Gold if you will.

Happy to get the ball rolling:

Forest are going to offer Southend 2.5m for their big striker Stan Collymore. Big, powerful striker with lots of skill - I reckon he will score loads of goals for us to get us back into the Premiership. Reckon he might be a force to be reckoned with in the top flight too - which will probably mean someone will come along with a big cheque for him.

Anyone else got any news of retro signings?

He should have signed in March 1993.

Nottingham Forest manager Brian Clough is today hoping to capture the £250,000 signing of Coventry City defensive pair Ian Butterworth and Stuart Pearce.

Butterworth, who mainly operates at the centre of defence, but can also fill-in at right back, is believed to be one for the future by the Highfield Road club, but Clough is desperate to bring him in to bolster the defence following Paul Hart's decision to quit Forest and as a replacement for long term injury Chris Fairclough, which will also mean Dutch star Johnny Metgod will be able to revert to his more preferred central midfield role.

Cash strapped City are believed to be prepared to allow relatively unknown Pearce to follow Butterworth to The City Ground as part of the deal. The 20 year old left back who joined City from non-league Wealdstone two years ago became a first team regular last season, but with Kenny Swain departing Forest last month, Clough is keen to bring in a left back to bolster his squad, while keeping up his current policy of opting for younger players as he looks to build on last season's disappointing league finish

No wonder my post count..
Football club Nottingham Forest has just clinched Britain's first £1m transfer deal.
England forward Trevor Francis signed for Brian Clough's League and Cup winning side this lunchtime in Nottingham after eight seasons with Birmingham City.

The total cost to Forest - whose average League gate is 30,000 people - will be £1,180, 000, including VAT and 5% fees for Francis and the League Provident Fund for ex-footballers.

Assistant manager of Nottingham Forest Peter Taylor said: "We can afford to pay prices like this because of good management in the past."

It is double the amount received by Liverpool when Kevin Keegan was sold to Hamburg in summer 1977.

The previous record transfer fee of £500,000 was paid by West Bromwich Albion to Middlesbrough last December for David Mills.

Nottingham Forest have signed Tranmere striker Eugene Dadi on a free transfer.
The 32-year-old has signed a contract until the end of the season at the City Ground - but will not face Rovers in either League meeting this season.

The Ivory Coast-born forward scored 28 goals in 86 league and cup appearances for Tranmere - although 32 of those outings were as a substitute.

He moved to Prenton Park in 2003 after spells with Stade Lavallois, Linz, Toulouse, Aberdeen and Livingston.

Forest boss Gary Megson has recently been searching for a striker after a disappointing start to life in League One which has seen them take just three points from four games and crash out of the Carling Cup to Macclesfield.

£2.5m is way too much for a Southend player, he's hardly setting the first division alight. He won't be able to make the step up and cut it at this level.

Anyway, If we're going to sign anyone from Southend, that Jason Lee looks a much better prospect.

Christ, that makes for tough reading.

Nottingham Forest have today announced the £1.8 million signing of Andrei Silenzi from Torino. Frank Clark is said to be over the moon with this signing believing Silenzi will bring some italian style to the forest side and bang the goals in. Silenzi will become the first italian to play in the premier league and the forest fans cannot wait to see Silenzi's goals fire forest to the top of the league.

Lol.

Nottingham Forest manager Joe Kinnear completed his second summer signing this afternoon when Gillingham midfielder Kevin James agreed a three-year deal.

The 24 year old Londoner was available under freedom of contract and Kinnear revealed that he had watched his progress with great interest over a number of years.

After finalising his deal James admitted: “It’s a massive opportunity for me to be joining a club like Nottingham Forest.

“I’ve had a good look around the place and the manager or nobody else had to sell Forest to me. I was thrilled that a club like this were interested in signing me.

“I just can’t wait to pull on a Forest shirt and get playing for them next season.

“Things happened very quickly for me but once I knew that Forest were interested I just wanted to come here and sign.”

James was man of the match when Gillingham drew at The City Ground soon after Kinnear’s arrival in February.

And the manager said: “I’ve always liked what I have seen of Kevin. He’s not played that many games but he’s got a lot of potential, he’s quick and he wants to come and develop his game here.

“He knows it is very much up to him to show that he is worth a first team place.”

Nottingham Forest have also completed the signing of Alan Rogers in a three-year deal.

The popular full-back was on loan at The City Ground has been released by East Midlands rivals Leicester City. And Forest manager Joe Kinnear acted quickly to sign the 27 year old full back.

Said Rogers: “I couldn’t be happier. When I came back to the Club on loan in February I was hoping that it might lead to something permanent.

If that wasn't bad, the comments left by a Hull fan and some Forest lads afterwards are both hilarious and depressing at the same time.

I can see you taking this divsion by storm next season with big name signings like those two.

You don't get anywhere wasting money on hundreds of big names - see Chelsea. And where did money get Hull the seasons before this one? Not to promotion, anyway. Bear in mind, you're still a Division Two Club...

Yeah i can't wait until next season should be a good one

Former England captain Platt - ruled out of a playing return through injury - has spent more than £6m in his efforts to return Forest to the big time at the first attempt. He signed Aston Villa defender Ricardo Scimeca in a £3m deal last month.

But the spending didn't stop there, though, and last week he made a £2m double swoop on Perugia's Salvatore Matrecano and Gianluca Petrachi, as well as Moreno Mannini, released by Platt's old club Sampdoria at the end of last season.

I was hoping that this thread might make us all feel better.....

.......but reading about Rogers, James, Platt, Silezni and co........

...rather supports Doughtys claims of not signing crap for the sake of it.

Nice to read about that left back from Coventry though. Sounds interesting. Do you think hes any good at being an electrician?

Bernard Allou (born 19 June 1975 in Cocody) is a French footballer. He currently plays for Nagoya in the J League
He was part of the Paris Saint Germain squad at the1996 UEFA Super Cup.

I think this could be the signing that puts us straight back to the Premier League.

Come on then people..which ex-Forest star are they describing (no cheating!)...

He helped Palace win promotion to the Premier League at the end of the 1996–97 season, but was unable to save them from going straight back after just one season. Next stop was at newly promoted Nottingham Forest, who also went down within a year of promotion. At Forest he scored once against future club Wimbledon

International career

During his time with Southampton *BLANK* won his first England under-21 cap, earning seven in all. He was rubbish at football so never made it at international level.

He had an awesome celebration though. And he did score against one of my most hated teams, Wolves on the day the Executive stand was renamed the Brian Clough Stand so he wasn't all bad!

Anyway ...

Forest sign QPR left-back Padula
League One side Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of QPR left-back Gino Padula on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old Argentine has signed a two-year contract with the City Ground side after his deal with Rangers expired at the end of last season.

"I'm aware of the great history here. The name of Forest is well-known in my country and it will create a lot of interest back home," said Padula.

"I'm aware Forest attract big crowds and I can't wait to play for them."

Padula played over 100 games for QPR after joining them on a free from Wigan in July 2002.

He becomes Forest's fifth summer signing after Nicky Southall, Gary Holt, Nicky Eaden and Ian Breckin.

Have we ever signed any players who weren't absolute w**k?

Nottingham Forest have announced the signing of experienced centre-back Ian Butterworth from Coventry City. The 6ft 2in defender played 90 games in four years for Coventry City where he started his career.

Butterworth has cost Forest £300,000 and Coventry have thrown in unrated former Wealdstone left-back Stuart pearce as a makeweight in the deal.
