Reserves

I keep seeing people mentioning that the reserve team was disbanded yesterday and all the reserves were released. Is this true? If so any ideas why? To save money? And does that mean Pemberton is leaving too? Nothing on the OS about it.

On every occasion I've seen the reserves over the last 2/3 seasons they have looked well organised and motivatd and had a far better shape than the first team. To lose Pembo Byrne ,Reid and 1 or 2 others would be a mistake.

I heard we won't be entering the reserve league next year. We will still play reserve games and I doubt all the reserves have been released.

would be absolutely pathetic if the reserves were disbanded, we have an excellent academy. how are they gona get match experience.

is this the true billy davies showing his colours? i rather hope not.

Be a shame if we get rid of the reserves.

As this helps the first teamers, have a run out after a injury. And also, gives the youngsters a chance!

I know for a fact that the reserves have been abolished and the majority of the players have been released. I imagine and hope that the club are not silly enough to let go of our promising youngsters though. Davies has made no secret of his wish to send these youngsters out on loan to league clubs if possible as this will stand them in better stead than uncompetitive reserve fixtures. I see no problem with this, in fact I welcome it as it will give them vital experience that will no doubt develop them as individuals.

The players that our academy has been producing recently haven't been up to the standard of those nurtured by Paul Hart (e.g. Jenas, Reid, etc.) but a reserve team is vital to test the youngsters against more experienced professionals, albeit not at Championship standard. I can understand while Davies thinks the current system isn't working because players such as Newbold, when called upon, have clearly lacked sufficient ability at first-team level. However, Moloney was performing extremely well before his injury and it would be a shame not to see him develop even further. He has obvious potential and I hope he is not overlooked by Davies, who hasn't seen the best of him.
