heard from a very good source billy davies has scrapped the reserves team as of next season. sorry if this has been mentioned anywhere else. not a wise choice in my opinion.

Im not sure if its scrapping the reserve team totally, think its more likely to be a pull out from the league, games will still be played but less competatively.

and here we goooo............

oh look we are derby county.

I don't really see why it's that big a deal...

The reserves will still play matches, just not every week in a league like they do now.

We'd have a first team squad and an academy, getting rid of the wages on players who will never feature in the first team like Mikael Darnet and Richard Tait etc...

For example, 26 first team players would mean 11 weren't even making the squad each week and so why would you need a completely seperate reserve team?

It just makes sure you have average nobodies in the squad like Emile Sinclair.

Hope this isn't true as we have done quite well in the past few seasons

With regards to injuries and what not that seems fair enough. The reserves have been doing well but, it's not to say we still won't be playing games, and I'm sure games will be arranged at short notice to improve match fitness of certain players.
Seems a bit odd, but I can't see it f***ing us up.

What makes you so sure, they are only 18.

we've done more than ok in the reserves recently. Davies is a f**king joke.
~sorry to be subtle~

the reserve team who, on the whole, cannot seem to step up at First team level? yeah, massive loss, what a prick Davies is....

It'll be like at Villa, a few games here and there. Osbourne mentioned it when he came. It's not really a big problem I don't think

No wonder my post count..
Shame, Forest are renowned for bringing youngins up through the ranks.

He's not scrapping the academy!

Which players that have acheived most success coming through the ranks have an extended stay in the reserves?

It's also good for parents to be able to take their kids to see a Forest match for free of an evening or a school holiday.

I very much enjoy any reserve match I can get to.

There'll still be friendlies played once every couple of weeks.

Loads of teams don't have reserve sides and it means lower wage bills.

Like I said, the reserve 'side' will be made up of those not involved in first team duties that particular week and the academy players.

I don't see it as a bad thing, more just getting rid of the players who have no chance of getting into the first team.

That's exactly what the reserve team is made up with at the minute.

Forest's reserve teams for the last few years (since CC came in and cleared Kinnear's/Megson's dead wood out) have always been made up of 2nd/3rd year academy lads and the odd unfit/out of favour 1st teamer. We don't carry around a squad of reserves.

The only 'Pro's' we have that haven't had any real involvement with the first team are Byrne, Bencherif, Sinclair and Darnet and they've all (apart from Darnet) spent a significant time out on loan. So it's not like we'll be shedding loads of players and shrinking the wage bill as a result of this.

I have no real problem with pulling out of the Pontins League (which is rather uncompetitive anyway) as long as other 'friendly' (although hopefully more competitive) reserve games against teams of better standard are arranged. We still need that link between U19 and 1st team football for the academy players to progress through. It'll be almost impossible for them to progress if all reserve football is scrapped.

Many clubs operate this way because like you said, the Pontins League is very uncompetitive.
