Reserves to be scrapped next season???

Heard from a mate of mine who regularly goes to forest and knows some people inside the club that BD has plans to scrap the reserve team next year. What this means for our youngsters I don't know but I don't like the idea of the reserves being scrapped the only bit of success about the club at the moment really ;D

Think there is some truth in it too as I am pretty sure that BD went and did the same thing at Derby. I remember hearing about it on the news or something and some Derby fans not being impressed.

Thoughts?

There's plenty of thought in the earlier thread about it, which I'm too lazy to go and find....

On the one hand, everyone knows that reserve team football isn't as competivie as it needs to be and the gulf between the reserves and the first team is huge...as we've seen illustrated by players who are great for the ressies but useless in the first team (step forward messers Warner, Westcarr, Sinlair etc...)...

On the other hand, without the reserves, how do you get players coming back from injury match fitness which they need before getting back into the first team?

AND its a great excuse to get rid of main-threat Pemberton - if he hasn't already walked or made plans...
I agree with keeping a reserve side for the reasons you state, though of course I am not personally funding it.
On the subject of funds, and to diversify slightly, what chance we lose the youth academy as well? Expensive and hasn't been attracting or delivering players of suitable quality for some time now.

not good if we do as norwich done the same last season and they no ways of getting players fit when there injured and they cant sign too many players as if they leave out players for the games then they have nothing to do as means of match fittness.

norwich ''reserves'' have no choice but to play local sides in non league football which is not really much of a test for the likes who play in the championship and i think they are going to be putting there resreves back in the league, as it dont work very well.

We do need to keep the reserves here.
- When first teamers are ready to comeback, the reserves is a good way to get back match fitness
- Gives the younger players a chance, and a bit of glory, when they win the title etc.
- Gives the younger players to prove to the manager.

I hope this isn't true, because we have some good youngsters, and they play some decent football!

Old news and talked about at length in previous thread, was common knowledge without secret inside sources

If and when players need match experience its not exactly difficult to arrange a friendly reserve game, we've done it plenty of times in the past.

Although we have been very successful over the past couple of seasons, it gives the youngsters some achievement I would of thought.

The reserves won't be going.

We're just pulling out of the league, we will arrange games ourselves which seems to be the direction most teams are taking now. Why do you think our reserves end up playing Macclesfield reserves? It's hardly competative or preparing them for the 1st team is it?

Look at how Aston Villa run theirs to see how we'll be doing it.

Running costs would be reduced some what I would imagine?

With us pulling out of the reserve league I would also imagine it would give Billy more of say in reducing the overall squad (youngsters like Sinclair and the Westcarr type players) which would all add up to a little more to be spent elsewhere on players more likely to have an impact on the first team squad

they would simply play closed door games like we have done this season to get moussi back fit against county, but its not that exciting for any youth team player...where do they go from youth...oh yer...the motorway to a team with prospects perhaps.

McGugan, Moloney, Heath, Byrne etc. etc.

I think these are all pretty good players (with a bit of expierence for the latter 3 required) I think the reserves would be useful something to bring these through into. Then send them on loan and then we can use them. The youth academy I think is vital for us.

Villa's reserves play in the Premier Reserve League (South), I don't think we'll be allowed to enter that competition. ::)
