The Italian league being slow is a stereotype stuck in the 90s. Serie A teams cover more distance than Premier League teams per match & it is ranked 2nd behind the Prem in terms of intensity.

It's not "spin", it's trying to back your argument up with numbers instead of just throwing statements out.

Passing the ball half the amount you do in one team compared to other is down to style difference. Atalanta in particular are a far more intense team than we are and most Prem teams for that matter.

We were too direct and static and he could never impact games in the way he does elsewhere. He's got one of the best pass completion rates this season in Serie A, here it was terrible. An average of about 65 passes per game during his years in Serie A, here it was 34 per game. That's a conflict in style. You could argue he needs to be in a good system to be a good player but I do not subscribe to the notion he is or ever was a bad player/not up to Prem standards.

Absolutely this.

He spent most of his time recieving the ball on the edge of his own box with two players closing him down and noone offering him any options.

Interesting that, if accurate. My abiding memory is of a player who moved like he was perpetually stuck in treacle, and played at least two suicide balls across field, one of which led to a costly goal. Maybe he just prefers Italy?
 
We weren’t playing football last season so it makes sense that he looks good again.

We did what was necessary.

Hes a good player, if he wasn't good for us then its on us really, it felt like having a Rolls Royce to visit the tip to me.

This season hes done well, I imagine looking at what runs Zirkzee makes or
when he was at Atalanta the likes of Muriel is a bit different to receiving the ball and seeing Ayew leading the line.

Entirely lost track but is he actually still ours or have Bologna triggered the option?

I’d genuinely love to see him play in a Nuno led side next year. With us playing further forward and with the better options around him I reckon he could look great

Quite a lot of these players take a season to get up to speed with the EPL - we never gave him that opportunity.
He always plays well for Swiss and he has qualified for the champions league with 2 unfashionable Italian teams
How we can let a player of that calibre go for £4m or whatever is crazy

He's just put Switzerland ahead against Italy with a great touch and finish.

He's having a great tournament.
 
He had some decent games for us, it's just that he also had a run where he didn't, which culminated in him falling out (of favour at least, but I suspect there's a little more to it) with the manager.

I always thought he was a decent player. It just didn't work for him here for whatever reason.

Perhaps he's better suited to continental football than the perpetual low block.

I think the conditions that triggered Bologna buying him were met just after the January transfer window. At present he is our player on loan to them, on Monday he is their player is my understanding but fwiw Bologna are very much describing him as their player.

Our media just have to mention us because we are f***in massive.
