You can be a physical player without being a defensive player though, Joelinton ripped us apart in the centre and he's a converted striker, although in all honesty he played striker like he was a converted midfielder , but the point I'm getting at is he isn't particularly defensive same with Phillip Billing at Bournemouth, a 6'4 monster centre mid but not necessarily the most defensive, just very physically competitive. It does feel like we need somebody like that in midfield; Colback and O'Brien are both scrappy and not scared of a tackle but couldn't compete physically with Joelinton yesterday. Yates will offer more physicality but we could do with another in my opinion. When you're a team like us who won't see an awful lot of the ball physicality throughout the pitch is the bare minimum needed to compete, then you start worrying about technical ability.
I get what you're saying mate, and definitely don't want to disrespect it, but the 'won't see a lot of the ball' can become a self-fullfilling prophecy - it doesn't have to be the case if we don't want it to be, but even to the extent that it is enforced at times through playing away at established quality teams, the better we can look after the ball ourselves the better I feel - we'll avoid pressure better if we keep hold of the ball, and we'll be able to get ourselves in attacking positions better too, with fluent use of the ball even if we have well under 50% of it in some games, if you get what I'm trying to say.

Anyway, no problem to agree to disagree (we probably don't completely disagree anyway!).

We're a counter attacking side though right? Obviously we don't want teams to completely dominate us like Newcastle did yesterday but a big brute in midfield to disrupt possession based teams and one up front to make it stick would immediately make us a better team imo. I think once you've sorted that is when you start adding finishing touches like your Garners and MGWs.

I think Garner is the key honestly. Takes care of the ball and is comfortable in possession in the tightest of spaces, provides creativity from deep, has an infinite tank of energy to get around disrupting the opposition as well as protecting our full backs when they push on, not physically weak, excellent set piece service, a lot of experience playing alongside Yates so a partnership already developed

And on top of all that he's still progressing, he's a priority signing for me but sadly I don't think it's going to happen

Have faith in Yatesy
He doesn't have faith in his body at the moment, the end of the season was his shoulder, now his knee. We don't know how long he will be out for either.

We don't want many more games like yesterday where we get nowhere near them in midfield.

He'll be rate he's made of proper stuff. In hindsight he probably did his self no favours by rushing his recovery in an attempt to make it for the start of the season, but once he's back in full swing there'll be no breaking him

This guy is a good player, would definitely support the club in this move...

If he wants to come and it's just a case of restructuring the offer then I'm still positive.

Let's just hope he doesn't watch a re-run of Saturday's game....

Doesn't sound too bad, stalled is usually euphemism for 'they want a bit more', perhaps they want a bigger loan fee or something.

Has anyone checked if he's really really sure he wants to play for us though? Just in case.

Was hoping a signing or two would lift the spirits before the weekend as it all seems to have gone a bit flat. This and the Moreno deal were the ones I was pinning my hopes on

I just hope that Saturday doesn't create problems for us with recruitment. I could just imagine agents suddenly wanting a few more quid knowing how desperate we are and advising their clients they're joining a doomed team based on Saturday so will only join if the money and terms of the contract are bordering on silly.

I’ll give him a bell. What’s his number?

I do wonder, if many on this thread have actually ever met a professional footballer?

Arrogant self belief is part of their makeup. All the best have that.

Many prospective signings might well look at Forest and think „I can make a difference there“?

"they lost one game, away from home, in their first season back in the league for 23 years, I reckon we can ask for more because of it".

Not buying it. Agents will get max value based on their worth. They aren't joining a team on zero points with half the season gone. If anything, as strummer noted, it's an opportunity to prove themselves.
