Released Players

I noticed the other thread about the palyers released by Man City, but a few other premiership teams have been releasing players. Liverpool have released Pennant and Burnley have released Kiraly. Surely we might as well try and sign them, even if in Pennant's case it is unlikely.

Kiraly is a joke of a player and Pennant is a million miles above what we can hope for at the moment... Other than that good post.

yeah i agree with you.

there are many quality players who slip through the net who are on a free.

people go on about wages but they will be expecting a drop, theyve just been relaesed- their team does not rate them enough to offer them a new contract, surely they shud take a pay cut?

There's a bit of a difference between taking a small cut and playing at a safe mid-table premiership team possibly pushing for Europe and taking a huge cut to come to a team that finished in the bottom quarter of the league below where he played last season where he was contracted to a Champions League team

Maurice Volz and Collins John from Fulham would be good additions. Both released this week, Volz was even selling himself on SSN yesterday.

Pennant is on mega bucks compared to what we pay and a strong rumour is that he's going to Everton.

Marshall.

I think we should go for Volz if we can't get Gunter.. Though of course Gunter is first choice hands down. Celtic have released Paul Hartley a 32-year-old Scottish international central midfielder.. Maybe Davies can convince him to join.

Volz would be a good signing, not done too badly in the premiership so should be a decent championship player.

Why are we talking about all these other players that are being released by other clubs?

Davies has set is stall out and has picked realistic targets, does anyone seriously believe we have any chance in picking up Pennant and the likes for peanuts and asking them to take a two thirds salary drop - forget it.

Mills/Barker/Jones - Gunter - McKenna - McSheffery - Blackstock will serve us very well (IF) and will not cost a fortune in fees and wages compared with some of the Premiership players that are now becoming available.

Its horses for courses and some of our targets and captures will stand us in good stead in trying to get us out of this league but there is such a wide gulf between the Championship and the Premiership that most will not be good enough if we were to step up and join the big boys.

Davies is going down the safe road of picking battle hardened Championship players that he knows are a safe bet and I applaud that.

Whether it works or not remains to be seen but I would sooner see him build with the type of players he has targeted than a Newcastle side that will try papering over cracks and patching up a team of Premiership failures.

Good post but we shouldn't right anything off. Pennant was a silly suggestion but the likes of Julian Gray are realistic and he is proven at this level.
