Reds in Afganistan

My brother sent me this photo from Afganistan. Thought some people might like to see it. There are a lot of local lads out there at the moment. Hopefully they will get another good welcome back from the City Ground when they come home.

Thats when he comes back. He's infantry, it's getting a lot worse for them at the moment now it's summer there.

that's a good point actually clifford , my brother's quite pleased ( if that's possible) to be going back over the winter months as the taleban tend to slacken off a bit when it get's cold .

Unless their in what used to be WFR they won't get a reception at the CG on their return mate. The WFR get a walk about when they get home as they are the local regt (even though half the lads on the walk round are sheep  )

There are loads of Reds on each tour in different corps who do a 'welcome home' parade in the local town to the barracks then get home for a well earned rest and plenty of beers.

Having said that I contacted the club to see if I could have my season tickt seat saved for me when I'm next away - told it's not possible but the club have offered to send me out a few goodies to keep my spirits up while I'm away

Excellent ! I sent a pic and details of 4 of us in Iraq and they didn't even reply ! Sent a letter to each professional club to send goodies out for the kids charity auction out there. We got a few but the best were West Brom. Sent a signed shirt, posters, footballs and even a handwritten letter wishing us all the best of luck. Even a voucher for 4 free tickets for any game !

Forest didnt even send a reply !

Yeah wrote to the club the last time I was in Afghan and likewise never even got a reply, but after emailing about them holding my seat for me next season get an email back from the PR dept about 3 days later apologising that it wouldn't be possible to reserve any seats but if I send my address they'll send me a few goodies.
Fair play with that - nice gesture!

Are you going out to Afghanistan again Andy? Or are you talking about when you were there before?
My kids at school have just written letters to guys in Camp Bastion, saying Thank you.

We went across a bit sharpish to my Daughter and Hubby at the weekend, the recent loss of the latest Royal Marine Viking Support Vehicle, contained two of his former comrades, One RM died at the scene, the seriously injured lad who has been airlifted back to the UK in a coma, stayed at their house a few weeks ago.

S-i-L spoke to him about pushing his luck, it was his third tour in Afghan, very sombre and angry young man, I think it's called survivors guilt.

I thought this thread might be about the lads on their summer holidays. Afghanistan must be better than Marbella...?

It would be great if Forest and Derby could play a testimonial game with the money going to the local regimental charity as a thank you to these amazingly brave guys and girls. Maybe rope in some of the older players as well?

Put that pic on my cousins lads' facebook wall, he's an Arsenal fan even though he's from Nottingham, so I told him that's how it should be done, no poncing about with small clubs from London.

Excellent idea. Anyone with any proposal for how to get something like this off the ground? Contact club's PR machine or is that akin to a brick wall?

The Taliban branch of the Toon Army were devastated to hear the news of Newcastle's relegation and the sighting of the Red Dogs Battalion on the horizon! ;D

Back out in March but with the ammount of training we have to do in the build up there's not much point in me getting a season ticket again for the 09/10 season as I'll miss too many games

My kids at school have just written letters to guys in Camp Bastion, saying Thank you.

Thats a nice touch mate. Saw lots of letters last time I was there in the American & Canadian welfare facilities from local school kids but never heard of UK schools doing that before - hats off to you and your pupils mate!

RIP Kieron.

Lance Corporal Kieron Hill, 20, from Clifton, was killed in an explosion near Garmsir in Helmand yesterday.

Apparently Kieron was a huge Forest fan
Just been posted on the NEP site that his brother Aaron is in the Forest Academy.
