Recycling an old song from 1966

I used to love singing this one in the old Trent End in 1966/7 when we finished 2nd in the top division to Man U and lost in the FA Cup semi to Spurs.
As the chant began everyone raised both their arms above their head singing Ohhhhhhhh Ohhhhhhhhh Ohhhhhhh for quite a while and then the chant would begin [ to the tune of McNamara's Band}

Ohhhhh we're better than United and we're louder than the Kop,
We're second in the League and we'll soon be at the top!
La la la laah, la la la laah laah, la la la la la la la la laaah
la la la laah , la la la laah laah, la la la la la la la la laaah

Awesome SongI would love it if it was resurrected.
Am happy to lead choir practice in the Globe if their are any willing choirboys. :hey:

MacNamara's Band was also the "....and as for Kevin Hector you can stick him up yer hole!" song wasn't it?

Similar but not the same, I think, having sung both to myself after Sunday roast refreshments. :bottles: :bottles:

The best was......."again and again and again and again we sing, we sing, again and again and again and again we sing, we sing, when ian moore scores a goal you shove your hector up your hole and we all go mad when forest score again"........when me and my aged compadre sitting now in lower bc hear a block on occasions resurrecting that famous rendition it brings the memories flooding back!!!......it was given some real gutso at the old baseballground by the travelling reds back in the heyday(thousands of us descended on derby back then,no limited allocations!),the popside were not impressed, and only a flimsy fence seperated us!!!.....happy days ;D ;D ;D

We had to sing Mcnaramas band and primary school. Its was rubbish then as well :D

And a fat kid got to be the leader of the band cos his name was ..... well think about it!

Catholic primary schools = full of fun, and blatant copyright infringment :D

This song made an appearance on Saturday in the A Block.
Didn't know the words but thought it sounded good.

Should that not be Paul McKenna ?

There must be some old timers amongst the a block as some of the old clapping renditions followed by"Forest" are being heard on occasions as well as of late.......when trent end decamped into the east stand it was too open for effect but the view was better!, on european nights the stand was packed and fencing had been put up by then from top to bottom(four sections if memory serves), remember swopping scarves through the fences with aek athens and ajax fans who were in the "away section".......still wear my "east stand reds" badge with pride.....happy days ;D ;D ;D..........gotta strong feeling that Billy is building a revolution to match those days, the vibes, the passion, the effort, the commitment..........................................onwards and upwards boys, keep the faith ;D ;D ;D

Macnamara's Band for the Spotify-equipped amongst you..

Not the "you can shove your Hector" song, but you can hear the similarity.

Did it? Didn't hear it, but glad to see an old classic doing the rounds.

I would love it to take off on Trentside again. Remember my Dad used to come out with this one when I was a kid and I always thought he was just knocking out a bit of pissed up 'diddly diddly' and linking it in with U Reds on his own back.

Anyways, if anyone should need any practice prior to QPR - Here's a link to Bing Crosby's ex-pat classic : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2O_-Pn8VxI

Spotify is nice, I like.

Want to send me an invite, I spent all my money on forest world as the puddle conversation was getting a bit hectic! :D

Are we talking about 'When Derby go down again, again'?

If so I'm puzzled as that's a regular staple both at the City Ground and on travels!

(subsequent posts, not the Vicar's original point).

On to the original chant raised, is that to the same tune as the more recent 'Commons is a Judas' song?

"When D***y go down again, again..." is to the tune of "The animals went in two-by-two", which strangely, is what the ruffians of the bygone era used to be armed with when approaching D***y fans...

I think as long as the United we are reffering to is Boston United and the Kop is the one from Meadow Lane, then yeah, let's do it!!

It's the song that derived from the American Civil War (and perhaps popularised by The Clash's reworking (and was subsequently perfected by The Levellers)).

When Johnny comes marching home again
Hurrah, ta-da...

etc

Similar if not the same tune as the Noah's ark inspired children's song.

"John Brown's body was a bloody awful sight....

...mucked about by gonnorhoea and buggered up with shite...

...the agonies of syphillis kept him awake all night,

but he still kept screwing on!"

That one?

The original song in was sung to an old American civil war song called "when johny comes marching home" and the full song was:

When Derby County go down again we'll sing, we'll sing
When Derby County go down again we'll sing, we'll sing
When Ian Moore scores a goal
You can shove your Hector up your hole
And we'll all go mad when Derby go down again

I know this is true......I was that soldier ;D

That song is one of my faves, and still gets a regular airing - certainly at away games :)
