Reasons to be cheerful - reprise. 1,2,3,4.........

As expected, the way Billy-boy conducts his business leaves me with a huge headache. As usual, he's getting his excuses in before the season has kicked off. Is it to lower expectations so that any success will come as a bonus? Or is it that he really believes the guff he spouts?
Well, let me tell you - my expectations are high.

We finished 3rd last season with a makeshift left back who we've now sold (for a reportedly good fee).

We have retained the rest of the team/squad.

With one or two sensible additions to the squad, we really and truthfully ought to have at least an equally good season as the last one.

Billy should have learnt some lessons (about his tinkering with the side) from last season.

We were thrilled with our signings last season - they are still here; they are the same players with an extra pre-season of training/tactics etc under their belt ......or have suddenly Blackstock, Ando, Gunts, McKenna, Earnie, McCleary, Cohen, Campy, Wes, Wilson all suddenly become crap?

I know most on this board will try to go to as many Forest games as possible anyway, but for goodness sake, show some spine some of you. All this moaning is doing my head in.

No such thing as spray-on success; we have to be patient and work hard at it. AND WHATEVER WE DO, WE MUSTN'T GIVE BILLY THE PURSE STRINGS!!!!!

McCleary is far from crap *eyeroll*

Apart from the fact he is a headless chicken with very little end product and has not developed at all over the last year.

The fact he only started one game in the league last season despite our lack of options on the wings says it all.

I have to agree with TRW - he has a real talent that will show as he gets a little older. He would be the last player I'd sell from our squad, one of possibly three we have that could star in the Prem. I wouldn't mind him and Ando on opposite wings this season.

On the subject of mcleary It makes me smile to myself when we always seem to assume a player will only get better with age.
On the point that BD is getting excuses in early. Well we weren't good enough last season and from where I'm looking were in an even poorer position personal wise ATM.
Shades of Paul hart following our play off defeat to the blunts a few years ago I'm afraid for me.

We've lost one squad player, so how do you work that out?

McCleary needs the fans onside, he's clearly talented. I bet if you asked the full backs he's come up against when he's come on late as a sub they'd happily not come up against him again. He's far from the finished article but I enjoy seeing players develop, and he has done just that since he's been with us. Our current first team has a number of key regulars in it that have grown into the players they are. It doesn't always happen but they all deserve opportunities and have to be forgiven mistakes and bad games.

We certainly were good enough last season for what we were trying to achieve, which was consolidation. Sure this season expectations have grown and that's a good thing. Yes, I want to see the squad improved, but listening to some of the comments on here I have to think a lot of them come from fans who haven't been watching the team regularly for the last 6 years. We are moving in the right direction and at good pace.

Its the ghost of that season I think. Its haunting all of us. We're scared will make f*** all signings because of then. We're scared we'll sign nobody, because of then (and other more recent January's). We're scared we've peaked and will now be shit and get relegated because of then. Its only natural really. Here's hoping we're all about to have good reason to forget that bloody season and get on with supporting our club.

Quite right, we've made progress each season for the last three years.

We have some very good, improving young players, and need only a couple of additions (and we all know in which positions) to make further progress.

Why all the doom and gloom when the season doesn't kick off for three weeks, and the transfer window doesn't close for six weeks?

I never find that there is a reason not to be cheerful. I'm a forest fan, i went when we were in league one, i went when we were relegation favourites, i enjoyed every minute of it, because i was watching my team. Sure it's great having a season like the last one, but it's no reason to expect a runaway win every time we play. We have an exciting young squad with a lot of quality, great fans, a good manager, a great chairman, and a club to be proud of. I don't doubt for one minute that the club will allow itself to self implode (again) so i'll never, as a forest fan, worry. I'll just watch Forest.

Bloody hell - I forgot. 3rd one season and then with THE SAME SQUAD .........relegation. Hmmmmm makes a lot of sense. My glass is always at least half full. BTW - we weren't QUITE good enough last season.

So Anderson & Whiitingham wouldn't be your first choice then?

Makes me laugh when people think Anderson is amazing, but his end product is worse than McClearys!

Its the pedigree that does that. Liverpool vs. non league team I can't even remember the name of. Its bound to affect the way we view the two players.
