Rafa IS NOT Mir here anymore!

Re: Rafa Mir IS NOT here anymore!

Wish him well but it says much for his impact here when you can say the squad has been significantly improved by him leaving and being replaced by nothing,

It actually sounds like a complement.

Parallels with Brereton.
Both were lauded as wonderkids when they burst onto the scene in their respective countries.
Both have lost confidence and become dead-beats now.
Like Ansarifard before him, I think Mir didn't get a decent run in the team, and the team was never set up to play to his strengths.
I sometimes think that if we brought Mitrovic into our team he would a) not get a decent run of games; b) be given no service when he did play and c) would be shipped out as a bomb squad failure.

Back up striker is a rough job, strikers play themselves into form probably more than any other position and when you're getting 20 minutes here and there it must be tough to get sharp and frustrating to not get more minutes, suppose that's why so many teams are looking for strikers again this Jan.

Re: Rafa Mir IS NOT here anymore!

Strikers, (the really good ones, anyway) have to have a certain, almost arrogant, self-confidence - to keep coming back and believing that they can score at any given time. Grabban has it - and that's why he bounces back from weeks where he hasn't had a chance, or has spurned chances.

Others will lose faith in their own ability and their goal droughts will stretch out longer, regardless of their technical ability.

Not just strikers, but creative players too.

Yes, you know who

Well, it would help players in most positions. But I've long held the belief it's just that little bit more important for Striker and Goalkeepers. Defenders and Midfields to some extent function as part of a unit, where they can be geed up, encouraged and supported by their team-mates to some degree. Goalkeepers and Strikers often find themselves having to react in relative isolation (especially with the prevalence of single-striker formations).

Felt for the guy initially, backing up is hard enough, then theres that isolated feeling you get as a Forest striker whereby you know midfield back up aint arriving anytime soon & youve got to fashion something on your own.

Takes a special striker like Grabban, or one who doesn't stop running. Mir aint Grabban & he did stop running in the end.

File him under S.

I could understand the excuses people are making for him if he ever looked like a footballer, but when he’s failing to judge the flight of a high ball kicked straight at him, or just wandering around aimlessly like a lost child every time he gets on the pitch, my patience runs a bit thin.

We genuinely wouldn’t have been any worse off if I’d played for Forest instead of Mir, and the only other player I can say that about is Dumitru.

Utter shite.

Which game was it where he actually ran away from the ball?

Perhaps needed more than the 200 mins he got here to show what he was about. Or maybe he's just better suited to Spanish football? Who knows.

I suspect this, never looked like getting the pace of the game here. You can tell pretty quickly with the likes of Mir & Diakhaby its going to take an age before their capable of impacting things.

We went over it in January multiple times, but it is a big ask to bring in a striker, knowing he is going to play second fiddle to Grabben and then hope he makes a big impact.

Would Mir have made a bigger impact if he would have got multiple starts under his belt? God knows. He is a young player who needed game, clearly has something about him to have played for Valencia and Spain and now being courted by Athletic.

In the starting line up vs Barcelona this evening.

Shouldn’t have let him go etc.
