Theres a pub called the sumners about 10 minutes form the away end down deepdale road past the sainsburys, always lets forest fans in. Fair few home fans there too, decent beer, decent banter!

I concur. Went there last season and it was well suited for away fans. I'm told the pub grub is good value also.

In terms of parking there are various car parks within walking distance of the ground for about £5. Last season we were a little cheeky and parked in a local retail park during the game. Its on the right hand side as you head towards Deepdale from the M6 about 1/4 mile from the ground. There are signs about clamping but we got away with it, maybe the fact it was on a tuesday night helped.

S'a point, I ought to do a spot of checking into what we're up to for this hadn't it? :D

Dithering about whether or not to go to this but I feel a trip to the ticket office tomorrow is almost inevitable. An early departure by car and a visit to the football museum followed by the traditional beer and fishand chips appears to be the way forward.

That's a point, Oscar, Eddie, Mark - shall we factor in a trip to the museum? Seems silly not to...

Where To Drink?

The closest pub to the ground is the Tom Finney Bar, which is listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. Generally it is a home supporters pub, but small numbers of away fans without colours shouldn't have any problems. Mick Hubbard adds; 'We settled on the unpromising Finney’s Sports Bar which was surprisingly quiet given its close proximity to the ground, it has Sky Sports TV, and name dedicated to Preston’s finest. In truth, it wasn’t great but we were able to get served quickly and enjoy a pint outside in the autumn sunshine'.

Further up Tom Finney Way (which used to be called Deepdale Road) from the ground, is Sumners, whilst across the road is the Royal Garrison pub. Sumners tends to be the more friendly (although some away fans do drink in the Garrison), with both home and away supporters mixing freely (although note that away fans are not admitted when there is a local derby). There is a good sized beer garden & car park at the pub. The pub does charge for parking (£3) but this can be redeemed against a purchase at the bar. Good food is available and children are allowed in. James Pritchett adds to get to the Sumners; 'Make sure you go towards Sainsburys and away from the Town Centre and it should take five minutes. As you go past Sainsburys turn right at the lights and it is half way up the hill. It should be full, but friendly. The pub welcome a mix of away and home support and are friendly towards families. It serves Theakstons on draught.' Whilst Charlie Guinan a visiting Nottingham Forest fan informs me; 'Sumners was good for away fans and apart from the beer they served an excellent pie, chips, mushy peas and gravy for only £3.50.'

Paul Billington adds; 'In all honesty visiting fans should avoid town centre pubs simply because the police will move you on quickly if they see you and most pubs will refuse to serve away fans. If you arrive by train I would recommend the Vic and Station not for the decor but simply convenience.' Otherwise alcohol is served within the ground.

Whilst John a visiting Chelsea fan informs me; 'We went to Preston and had a great day. The Yates pub located about a 15 minute walk from the station towards the ground was fine and was okay for us away fans and family friendly. My only criticism of the ground was that it was difficult inside to get a drink as there was no proper queuing system and hence it was a mad scrum at the bar'.

Sumners is a good shout for a pub. The football museum takes about 30 minutes to get round, so don't leave that much earlier than you would have.

Got me 4 tickets. Block Q row 24 Shankly end. Sounds quite far back but not quite in the corner thank god.
When are people hitting sumners and footy museum? Will be good to put faces to all you Rice's.
