Celtic line up £1m deal
By Aidan Magee, 05/06/2010

DARREN PRATLEY is set to complete a £1million move to Celtic this week.

The Swansea midfielder has been watched by a number of clubs in the Championship but the SPL giants have come forward with a firm offer.

Pratley, 25, was a key player for the Swans last season as they narrowly pipped to a play-off place by Blackpool on the last day of the season.

He has been watched by Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough since Christmas but has instead agreed a four-year deal with the Glasgow club.

The problem that I have with Celtic rumours at the moment is that they are still hunting for a new manager.

If this is true - which I doubt - the fee looks far too low; Pratley is worth more than that, surely?

And although Celtic don't currently have a Manager, apparently Neil Lennon is now the favourite, so maybe he's had a word?

Still not sure about this though; why would Pratley go to Celtic, when he has the chance of the Premier League (as well as us, Wigan and Martinez were rumoured to be interested?)

Hmm, considering we offered considerably more in January and would offer considerably more again this summer, I somehow think £1m seems a little low.

Whilst I don't think £1m will be enough if you think about it enough it might not be far off the mark.

Would Swansea rather sell Pratley to Celtic for £1m or us for £1.5m? Well I'm pretty sure they wouldn't want to strengthen a rival in the same division if they had another option.

The 2nd point is Pratley only has a year of his contract left and as he is over 24 will be able to go anywhere he wants for free in a year. So maybe just maybe £1m now and to another league is not as daft as it first appears.

Whether he goes to Celtic or not, I'm pretty sure he won't end up in Nottingham.

Also its probable thats the intial fee rising to more if cetic win the title, cup etc appearances goals etc. A player like Pratley will do well in the SPL so maybe thats smart business from the swans. Cos lets face it celtic will be there or there abouts come next May again.

I think you're right that Swansea will probably settle for significantly less this summer than in January.

Back then he had six more months on his contract and could have potentially been talked in to renewing his deal. The heat of the January transfer window, the Swans being in play-off contention and testing the water on the Welsh lads' part also probably raised the price.

Looks like it'll be difficult to snare him, but I wouldn't rule it out just yet or declare it the end of the world if we do miss out.

If he was to go to Celtic for £1M then that would mean that Forest, if they were trying to sign him, never offered more than that, either that or Swansea owners can't add up.
A bit like Fox who went there last year and as Fox found out the SPL is a step backwards form the Championship.

Sorry to any SPL lovers amongst us - I think Pratley would be MAD to go to Celtic, where he really won't get enough competitive matches. Come to Forest lad!

This has just got Moses, Mills etc all over it now. No chance he'll be by the Trent next season
