It refers to licesed premises between Derby and Nottingham, rather than saying in Nottingham or near the ground.
Make of that what you will.

We got that letter at work last week.
Here's what it says:

CITY LICENSING, CENTRAL POLICE STATION, NORTH CHURCH STREET, NOTTINGHAM, NG1 4BH
0115 XXXXXXXXX

Dear Licensee

ADVICE NOTICE OF FORTHCOMING FOOTBALL MATCH FIXTURE NOTTINGHAM FOREST V DERBY COUNTY SATURDAY 21ST FEBRUARY 2009 KICK OFF 1 PM

Nottinghamshire Police in conjunction with Pubwatch wish to advise you of the above forthcoming football match fixture.

Derby County Football Club have an element of supporters who historically have followed the team and either before or after the game become involved in incidents of disorder. Intelligence suggests that this may be the case on the day of this game.

To address the situation there will be a strong police presence during the afternoon both in the vicinity of the ground and in Nottingham City Centre.

Some of the supporters travel to away games by train and coach. However, it is anticipated some supporters may decide to attend the game by road utilising cars & minibuses etc and may stop off at licensed premises on route to the ground.

The purpose of this letter is to forewarn you of possible problems and ask you to consider using doorstaff in order to strengthen your managerial qualities.
Please bear in mind that all door staff have now to be nationally registered under the Security Industry Act.

For those that have CCTV systems installed please have them operating and in full working order.

It may also be prudent to consider the use of plastic bottles and drinking vessels.

Please remove all outside furniture to prevent such items being used as missiles.

If you do have groups of people in the pub who are unknown to you & who you think maybe football supporters please notify the police on one of the below mentioned telephone numbers.

Pub Watch radios for both the City and West Bridgford will be monitored in the Match Day Control Room on the day of the game.

If you require further advice please do not hesitate to contact the Licensing Officers on XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX who will be pleased to offer guidance.

Officers will also be on duty on the day of the game in the vicinity of the ground and in the City Centre and in possession of a Pubwatch radio.

Match Day Control - XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

If you require the police in an emergency you should telephone 999.

It is of course hoped that the match results in a trouble free day and the Police action will act as a deterrent to trouble makers. The police will of course deploy resources to any potential trouble spots as soon as possible.

Kind Regards

David Browitt
Licensing Officer

Basically common sense applies, and I suggest the letter was to alert premises who aren't interested in football and who may not have realised the game was on "today".

I expect there will be an element of trouble tomorrow somewhere. Derby are still spitting wool after the 'sheep's head' incident.

I'm expecting a tree in my desk drawer on Monday! ::)

On the OS site it says fans will be turned away if havnt got tickets. what happenes if forest fans have to pick tickets up from ticket office at city ground. Say you didnt book your tickets to say wednesday/thursday when it was too late to send out to the fans.

I think that sentiment was mainly aimed at Derby fans. As long as you aren't running around West Bridgford like a mad man you will not have any trouble from the police, you would think at least.

Turned away from where?
If you try to get in without a ticket of course you will be turned away. If they mean turned away from the general area of the City Ground they can't do that. Last time I checked there was no law saying that it's illegal to go across Trent Bridge unless you have a ticket for a football match.

Then you should check the football (dis) order act.

One of revisions was the idea of being 'on the way' to the game, as opposed to 'at the game'.

Something to do with a difference in punishment for football hooliganism to regualr hooliganism, but the old act only prosecuted those within the stadium.

We all know that when it comes to football and police discretion, anything goes.

I think it is to do with the situation or business you are about.

The Police lift you on one of the wide ranging orders designed to remove civil liberties and allow the Police a greater arrest rate. Once lifted by the Police you are indeed guilty until such times as you provide 110% proof before a Court that you were there on legitimate business.

Easy really

I'll be heading into WB without a ticket as Andy has mine. I'm willing to bet I'm not arrested for it.
