I did 3 trend projections using the points amassed so far. If we continued like we have for the first 22 games then we would finsh on 83pts, a projection on the last 10 games yeilds 82pts (that run of 4 draws, grrr) and the projection based on the last 5 games yeilds 98pts.

Well Birmingham fished 2nd last season with 83 points and Wolves won with 90 points.

I think 75 - 80 will be enough for automatic this season

Well 95 would probably see us Champions :)
82 would just about see us 2nd and promoted
72 would probably see us 5th or 6th.

In order to amass 72 points we would need another 33 (30 by the half way mark of the season if we beat Watford)

If you look at the table at teams with 30 points right now. That's the kind of minimum form we would need to match for the second half of our campaign.
In other words if we play 2nd half of season like QPR, Palace and watford played the first we should be in the playoffs. ;D

Just get as many points as we can and worry about where we are in mid- late April.

Get to 55 points, take a deep breath - and then chuck the kitchen sink at it. We have nothing to lose.

Can we hit the stay up target of 45 points before New Years Day? 8)
So far this really is the best season since 94/95

I'm pretty sure 50 is the golden benchmark for staying up every season

Given the shitness of the lowly teams and competitiveness of the league in general I think the safety target will be lower this season.

Unbelievably, there are shitter teams than them down there! Hopefully their fund-raising mega-sale in january will mean they are even worse in the second half of the season..

Back onto topic,I joked that 90 points should be our target this season the other day.Now I realise I'm being half serious when I say that such is my faith in this current lot

Didn't Leicester go down 53?

and with a positive gd.

that was a fluke though. there weren't any standout bad teams that year.

this year plymouth are genuinely appalling. peterborough and sheffield wednesday are poor.

pretty sure it will be those three that go down.

+ watford could go into administration.

in 07/08 there were 18 points seperating playoffs with relegation

compared to:
08/09 - 28 points
06/07 - 33 points
05/06 - 33 points
04/05 - 23 points (when we went down)
03/04 - 22 points
02/03 - 28 points
01/02 - 26 points
00/01 - 26 points
99/00 - 30 points
98/99 - 29 points
97/98 - 26 points
96/97 - 25 points
95/96 - 19 points
94/95 - 26 points
93/94 - 20 points
92/93 - 27 points
91/92 - 26 points

so it was a certainly a fluke year. so far, halfway through the season the gap is 16 points already. in 07/08 at this stage the gap was 13 points. so we can't really read anything into this season yet, but it's more likely to go the way of 06/07 than 07/08.

i'm willing to bet newcastle already have enough points to stay up this season.

We're not even half way through the season yet and we only need 14 more points to equal the point tally from the whole of last season!
