It's one of the best football podcasts going, gives a real insight into how things can operate behind the scenes.

Purslow gave a really good explanation on the money and deals behind the hydration breaks the other day. Basically Fox Sports bought rights for the 18 and 22 World Cups and after doing so were pissed off when FIFA decided to make Qatar a winter tournament as it would clash with their NFL and NBA seasons. Instead of potentially going down the legal route FIFA essentially gifted Fox the rights to the 2026 tournament for free. This was all before they'd even announced who would host.

So now Fox have lucked out, not only did they get an extra tournament for nowt but it's very conveniently a home tournament too and an extended tournament so provides extra interest. And just to add the cherry on top for them FIFA again very conveniently introduced a hydration break allowing broadcasters like Fox the opportunity to make a truckload of extra money they had never banked on initially.
