I was interested to here what happened between him and Cooper but he doesn't elaborate much...he doesn't even mention his name it's just 'he' or 'him'. Obviously a huge fall out. Always thought it was weird how he had that great game at Chelsea away and then was left out of the starting XI the following week. It was all downhill for his Forest career since that game.

Great interview and he's a good lad Joe. Wasn't the final nail when he was dropped for Murillo after that Chelsea game (when Joe was man of the match)?
You could see it from his point of view at the time, but in hindsight its hilarious that he was probably saying "you've just dropped me for some lad from Brazil" only that unknown player was a generational centre back. But from what he does mention it went back a lot further than that and didn't like that he seemed to be the one to drop out anytime we got battered.

Sad ending really but as a fan i can only speak for myself and say that his great performances outnumber any dodgy ones, but when we got to the PL he was just capable of having a moment and being a half yard off the pace that was required.

Good luck to him though, nothing but good will and hope he goes on to make another 300 appearances elsewhere.

He talks really well, honest, no nonsense or frills. Doing his coaching badges, how good would it be to have him back at Forest one day as youth coach etc-what a leader and inspiration he could be for the young lads coming through. Great interview, pleased for Matt Davies as well-as clearly has a good reputation and pull in the game now-done really well.

It really was a good podcast.

JW is a credit to himself & the club but he always has had a high opinion of himself & it seemed like it was the final nail in the coffin for him in the end.

There is no way he could seriously go to SC and moan about not playing ahead of Murillo - or even Boly & Niakhate. The timeline is unclear but it seemed like he lost his place in the team, then he was brought off the bench after a few games in the 2-2 against Luton where he came off the bench and royally cocked up - I am assuming that was the point he knew his career here was over after moaning he wasn't in the team prior to that. The simple reality is we had better players.

He was dropped after the Burnley game a week later.

Both him & McKenna were at fault for both Burnley goals (one was disallowed, but still shocking defending) - it was McKenna's last start for us too.

Neither were good enough for the Prem, I suspect Cooper had enough at that point especially with the arrival of Murillo.

I agree, but to be fair, all elite sports people have to believe in themselves and look at the world through their own end of the telescope. Doesn't make him right, but I understand why he'd believe that.
Also, given what was going on outside of football, he could have been shown more understanding. A bit like Joe Lolley's exit...it was right but not handled well.
I guess that pressure got to everyone.

Yes, I bring it up because it is likely one of the reasons he got as far as he did.

But it certainly cost him if he had the approach of I should be playing ahead of these proven international footballers. He should have stayed professional for the team and been an ally that the manager clearly needed at the time. He mentioned Yatesy also was in the same situation but if he was, you can be sure he kept his head down & just kept working harder instead of demanding to play.

He had some tough personal news to deal with though, so I'd prefer to give him some slack

There's two sides to every story though. Coops also had to think of the bigger picture for the team and the club.

Yes, simply too slow for the Premier League. Compare him to what we have now at Centre Half and it is light years away form Joe.

Wasn't it Aina who f**ked up against Luton by ducking under the ball?

I'm not sure Omabamidele and Niakhate were much better than Worrall as we barely kept a clean sheet all season. I think his point is he didn't get a fair crack, which is understandable if you're sat on the bench watching everybody else make mistakes. I'd be more worried if a pro player was happy to sit on the bench and not want to play.

Aurier I think.

Yeah that was Serge. Strange that he got less abuse for the first goal than Worrall did for the second.
I still can't believe Cooper chose Worrall to come on against Adebeyo; if I knew he would cause Joe massive problems then Coops should too... and I think I'm right in saying we had McKenna on the bench that day too who is made for battering ram types like him. A mess all round I'd say.

I'm not sure Worrall even really make a big mistake, Adebayo was just better in that moment. If Wood scored that it would be great forward play.

McKenna wasn't on the bench, the other choice was Niakhate. It didn't help that we'd just brought Aina and Williams on before the goal.

Ah, misremembered that part then. Regardless, I'd fancy Niakhate more in that battle and he's not the most aggressive. That type of striker has always been Joe's kryptonite - anyone but him for that role!

Love wozza and wish him the best of luck who else went to the Chesterfield pre season game before this season where he genuinely looked completely gone everything he touched in that game turned to shit and its obviously wasn't anything to do with his football ability it had to be mental so he definitely needed the move and I think even he can see and is coming to terms with that he's not quite a top half Premier league level centre back or ill say at least not a consistent one great servant though and will always be fondly remembered for the promotion season.

Yeah I was at the Chesterfield game and I saw it exactly the same way. His first touch was honking, like a trampoline foot. He couldn't make a pass and he kept getting caught out. He looked shot to pieces. I knew from that moment on he would be on his way

Great interview with Joe. Love his honesty, it’s an insight to the club and just how much he loves Nottingham, the city and the club. You can see how much he respects the staff, all key Nottingham people. Integral part of Forest’s rise

Its bizarre a local lad who came through the ranks is seemingly held to a higher standard than players who'd played in the Champions league and would be here a season or two yes I totally agree. Not just Aurier but thats a great example.
