Notts County's 60,000 Seater Ground Share Plans?

Whilst neighbours Notts County are busy proving to the Football League that their owners are Fit and Proper Persons, it's also come to light that they are planning to develop a new stadium.

Vital Forest have been told about the Meadow Lane clubs' ambitious plans, that include ground sharing a 60,000 seater stadium with the Reds'.

Alledgedly, Notts County want to buy the land surrounding Meadow Lane and turn it into a stadium, that would be utilised by both Forest and Notts.

Forest Chairman Nigel Doughty though, is said to have dismissed the plans out of hand and considers the idea as an attempt to derail the 2018 World Cup bid, that NFFC and the City Council have in place. He's also unconvinced that a 60,000 seater ground could ever be filled. That's a view that would be shared by most Forest fans, who have doubts that we'd fill a ground with a capacity of 45,000.

It should be stated that this is just a rumour at the moment, but the source of the information has been proved right on many things that Vital have gone with this summer.

Yeah that would be one of the worst things that could happen to any club, anywhere, ever.

I know it's just a rumour, but 60,000 is twice as many seats as we will ever need.

Utter tosh.

Lets go hog wild and build a million seater as long as we're making stuff up.

Now been talking to a man tonight, who say's the development of the Main Stand is far more likely prospect for Forest than a new stadium, although a new stadium for Notts Co is not to be ruled out as part of the City Councils bid for the World Cup.

The County Council in my opinion ( Hides a multitude of sins that word in my opinion  ) wants the City Ground to remain in the sporting triangle of West Bridgford. This is based upon the revenue bought into the area on a regular basis by both the City Ground and Trent Bridge, when they attract a large number of spectators.

When a large event is hosted at Holme Pierrepoint, although there is an increase in turnover for local business's, it is nothing on the scale of the big two. Local business's are the life blood of any area and many depend on the two sporting facilities, including creation of local jobs boosting the local economy. The feeling is this concentrated boost would be lost if a major stadium was built at Gamston.

So the feeling amongst those on high is keep an eye on Notts and the City Council for a new stadium, Forest will improve the City Ground eventually.

If there is to be any slight development of this plan.. I expect absolutly everyone, myself included to cause such an uproar that it will never really go ahead.
Notts County fans I expect would also be at the heart of the protests if it meant sharing with us.

lets put loads of money into a new ground and starve the team of quality players..... lets go into debt again..... and end up in the 3rd division.....
are we serious?

Oh and munto apparently own most of the land around lego lane, well the cattle market at least

Notts chairman on Matchtalk last night said whilst shared stadiums work on the continent our culture dictates that they don't really work in this country.

I think that came from the rumour that munto is backed by a property developer, i find it hard to believe that anyone other than the council will own the land as it was all part of big redevelopment plans (the plans which were published years ago and didn't include meadow lane on them)

Surely the experience of Darlington will prevent any club's owners making the mistake of building a stadium several times larger than they could ever fill regularly.
Darlo supporters knew when Reynolds was building it that the size was ridiculous and would be an embarrassment. I've been a few times and it is a very sad and soul destroying place. I don't think it has ever been half-filled and there are normally fewer than 3,000 in a 27,500 capacity stadium.

i'm pretty sure the plans included compulsary purchases of land, didn't they? again apparently, some land has changed hands recently with munto being a name put forward for the money behind it.
this could all be bollocks though, but i doubt it

This is strange thing to be posting, when earlier in the same evening the Notts chairman is on the radio saying it will never happen!

They'd better not build on the cattle market, it has a great greasy spoon and an army surplus shop. That's way more useful than a new Notts ground!

Dear PSR,

Please could all future C+P'd Vital posts come with a disclaimer, much like Gary's Poo Rumours [GRP].

Something like [MBFV] (More Bollocks From Vital).

Thanks
