Perchy had a cracking game tonight bar a couple of sloppy passes early on. A cracking tackle towards the end to dispossess Quinn (i think) when he was verging one on one. Well done Perchy for answering his critics.

Yeah he made a few vital tackles like that. Although he possibly should have been in front of the man anyway, but we'll let him off. He's obviously not overly comfortable on his left foot, but he's a very good tackler and gets stuck in when it matters, so fair play to him.

I'm sure he stopped a potential one on one at the end ? Decent enough game tonight lets actually get off his back eh ?

I know somebody has already said it, but most definately the bench.
I'm no Perch hater, not by any stretch of the imagination, but in an ideal world where we have a left back and everything else is peachy, he can sit on the bench and provide good, solid, dependable cover for the back four and Mckenna should he need a rest or get injured. Whilst he is definitely a decent player to have in the squad though, he is by no means a starter for a team banging on the door of the premier league.

That's certainly not his fault though and only by showing him some real encouragement and getting behind the lad is he going to be able to step up to the mark and slot in to Nicky Shorey's boots.

what he said, good squad member, should appear more off the bench to replace tired legs I'd add...but did well tonight overall i thought

Great tackle at the end but his use of the ball tonight was abysmal.

Right back would be his best position.

Centre-half, though thats not going to happen with us. Trust me, the guy has the game to play there, and do very well.
Who voted "on the coach". Get off his back, he's never let us down, played in unfamiliar positions to help the team and had to put up with moronic tossers slagging him off after a misplaced pass. Just like they do when Wes, Wilson, Raddy or Gunts did last night???
Poor lad is an easy target, I'm afraid. But we'll miss him if he goes elsewhere in the summer.

How has he answered his critics?

There's a saying: One swallow doesn't make a summer!!!

Then there is another saying: One tackle doesn't make a player into a International.

I can't be doing with all the excuses people come out with when defending some of these players - "He's playing out of position" - "He's not right or left footed" - "His heads not right" blah - blah - blah.

These are professional footballers FFS - So when you start to feel sorry for someone in the sport just think of the 10 grand a week they're earning in comparison to the poultry amount you are taking home.

Wasn't it a great tackle on an area he should of been covering so probably shouldn't of had to make it in the first place? Its how it looked from where I was sat, I may be wrong.

Perchs ability on the ball (or lack thereof) combined with his being right footed meant that any potential attacks down the left hand side when playing ball across our back line, were short lived and led us down blind alleys.

So what I am saying is that I don't think Perch can continue in that role as it is clearly hampering us.

All defenders (incliding Shorey) get turned sometimes. Shorey got sent off because he wasnt able to make as good a tackle as Perch did last night.

I guess it'll happen fewer times to Shorey than Perch. But we'll never know how would Shorey perform at Centre Back or Defensive Midfield. Perch was filling in, when he got turned he made a class tackle. What I want our defenders to do is get the ball and give it to a forest player, sometimes that needs to be long to prevent us being closed down too easily. Not many defenders can spray beckamesque diagonals 60m across the park.

Heard about the tackle he made last night. What position was he playing last night anyway?

At this moment in time, Perch is the most suitable player we have to play at Left Back. His best position is probably Right-Back, but he hisn't the best Right Back at the club. I understand that he prefers Centre Half as his best position - but he isn't one of the best Centre Halves ath the club either (Although I have never seen him play there).

As has been said already. Until we have a better option as left back - he's doing a reasonable job under the circumstances, and deserves our full backing.

I think if I were the gaffer, I'd be playing Gunter at Left-Back and Perch at Right back, as Gunter is a better left-back than Perch and, although he's obviously a better right back too, Perch is closer to Gunter's ability at right-back than left-back...but it's all small differences.

I think Billy took your advice on this a few weeks ago.

It's tough between Defensive Midfield and Right Back, I would go for Defensive Midfield.

Either way he has to fight past McKenna, Moussi and Gunter to be chosen in either role.

Personally I think that Gunter was promised when he signed that he would be used at right back and not left.

There are plenty of times we could have done with moving him there and haven't.

I can understand why he wouldn't want to play there. He is a better right back than left back and because he is two footed and left backs are rarer he could spend his whole career playing in a position that is not his best.

Am I right in thinking he's been used almost as much (or perhaps more) as a left-back for Wales than he has at right back?

If he's prepared to do it for his country, then he should also do it for his club.
