No wonder my post count..
Yeah, as someone said on here once, he's been the only Forest manager with a 100% win and clean sheet record!

Apart from the 2 he conceded at Carrow road he has 100% clean sheets.

Wouldn't be surprised about the reserves leaving because he has done it at his other clubs and it has been rumoured for ages.

I'm not too sure about Pemberton leaving though. It would be logical I suppose but he could surely be used as a coach for the first team?

I can confirm 100% Pemberton is to leave
He was informed via a phone call last week but he is on holiday at the moment and it will be sorted out next week.
It's dissapointing to say the least as he has only done good for this club.
Let's just say he didn't fit into the Billy Davies way of thinking, the reserves are almost certain to be removed next year also.

Thanks for that. Who are you, Ned Kelly, Mark Arthur, Nigel Doughty? No? I didn't think so.

There have been a number of people saying a number of different things and the one I choose to believe the most is the person - can't remember who it was - that said the reserves are to be taken out of the league they're in because it's so poorly organised and instead will play a number of friendlies against higher quality opposition to give the youngsters some much-needed experience.

Pemberton will stay if that's the case, but even if he's not kept on in a full-time reserves manager role, he'll be at the club still, I'd imagine.

Personally, I think it's good if we're getting rid of the likes of Emile Sinclair who won't feature for the first team anytime soon. Also, why would we have given new contracts to the 19-year-olds like Mickael Darnet if there's going to be no reserve team.

He's nowhere near ready for the first team yet and he's too old to play for the youth side.

I cant see how participating in selected friendlies could prepare anyone for participating in the first team - even if they are playing against premier clubs. I hope I am wrong but it strikes of short termism to me - it will allow BD to boost the squad with the cream of the reserves but where do the future academy players go? I feel that scrapping the reserves may well be good for Billy D but not for the long term of the club (and I dont expect Mr Davies to hang around for long - once we have a good season he will be off to the first Premier club who wave a checkbook at us)

The suggestion is, is that the reserves aren't being scrapped, but they are pulling out of the reserve league.

Instead they'll arrange a series of friendlies for the young academy lads/fringe players to play in against more serious opposition.

That was how Nick Marshall described it at the Forest Foundation meeting the other day.

to add my 2 penneth in-its obvious in a way that Pemberton would leave as other coaches like Chris Fairclough have been promoted ahead of him since BD arrived. If i were him i'd probably want to go somewhere i felt wanted. TBH as long as BD gets results i don't care what he does and from my memory, i can't think of an big academy product who came through the reserves-JJ, Dawson, Reid, et all stepped straight from the academy, the reserves have just been a dumping ground for people we've released

Put it this way it does make sense for the reserves to be scrapped because of the releases made. Gamble, Sinclair, Mitchell etc. etc. all regular reserve players (as was mentioned on the website) players like Darnet, Redmond and Newbold were all kept because they have potential to thrive. As has been mentioned we can arrange friendlies against decent opposition and we can send these out on loan easily because there are no commitments to reserve sides.

Loan expierence is so much better getting a feel for 1st team football at a lower level is much better than playing in the reserves side and therefore I can see exactly why BD has scrapped it.

Last seasons reserve league consisted of just 9 clubs.
When you look at those clubs its obvious that the standard was very poor.
Billy probably thinks that our current crop of reserves need testing better hence the idea to arrange 20 or so reserve friendly games against better quality teams. If thats the case then i'm all for it.
Hopefully John Pemberton will be a part of it too.

The whole thing makes good sense if you ask me. The Pontins League contains 9 teams including the likes of Lincoln, Port Vale and Macclesfield. Its been a competition to give our academy graduates some match practice and not much more.

I can't think of many of our youngsters who've graduated into the 1st team after playing in that set up for a season. McGugan and Thornhill both pretty much broke straight through, Maloney had a successful loan. Maybe Heath. In fact you could argue that it's held the likes of James Reid back - who showed good promise a few seasons ago has rotted in our reserves ever since. Billy seems keen to get more of these lads out on loan.

Also, Billy will have a bigger squad and will want to put out a settled side week in week out. So there will be players who won't play much first team football throughout the season. He obviously feels he can keep them happier if they play more competitive reserve matches against better opposition to keep them sharper.

One of the frustrating things about Calderwood was that he had a small squad and continually tinkered with the side to try and keep everyone happy. That small squad nearly got us relegated last year.

As for Pemberton, I hope he doesn't go but also think he's got a good future in management and wish him all the best if he does.

I have just been chatting to my old man.
He was at the Forest golf day on wednesday and he had it confirmed to him that Pemberton has indeed been sacked!
Arthur broke the news to him over the telephone and needless to say Pemberton was fuming. He was also told that Arthur is hated by most at the club and that Pembo called him a spineless ****. Spot on in my opinion.
Thanks pembo for your great work with the younger players and good luck in the future. You deserve better.

If it is indeed true...

Good luck and all the best for the future, John.

He'll no doubt make a great coach and will more than likely have no trouble in finding a new club.
