He's been called up into the England U18 squad. Scored a hat-trick for the academy recently.
 
Its seems ages since some of our young blood broke into the first team, If I was billy I would pop one on the bench and maybe give them 10 mins or so every now and then I sure it would do no harm but who am I...

I'm sure if he was at any other Championship club he would be given a go.

When was the last time Billy gave a youngster a go? He just wants his stellar signings.

It was good to see Villa blooding some youngsters today.
 
Billy is the wrong manager if you want someone to nurture youngsters into the first team.
Two players in the England U16s and now Patrick Bamford in the U18s. Promising for the future (after Billy has left obviously).
 
very good player. deserves his change.
i played with him when he was about 9/10, and played cricket with him up until he was 15. always stood out, and was about 10 times better then myself, can see he will go places tbh!
 
By all accounts are academy players are exceptional right now.

Shame they've got a very slim chance of even sitting on the bench.
 
Can't help but feel that this is all a bit premature. They are still young players and I am unsure if shoving them into the squad at the moment is a great idea. The squad needs a bit of experience at the moment I feel.

Also Karlton Watson made an England U19 squad recently too.

I think you're spot on.

It's easy to get excited about these young talents, who we haven't seen play and don't even know if they're up to competing in the physical side of Championship football. Putting one of these lads in before they're ready could damage their confidence, they may get injured or the fans may decide they don't rate them at far too early a stage.

James Reid was capped at under 18 level and didn't really amount to much. It really shouldn't be used as a guide.

If Billy and the coaching staff believe one of them to be ready then by all means play them, but I don't think he should cop flak for not pushing youngsters on the strength of a guy making a youth squad at international level.

But no youngsters are getting a look in are they? With seven subs, you can afford to have someone on the bench for the experience.

I think this is a myth.

In pre season, he played alot of academy players and we looked dreadful. Right now, when we are all moaning about not doing as well as expected, or drawing too many games, or our away record, why on earth would he just throw in some untested kids?

It always tickles me that people say billy only wants stellar signings, yet you look who our most important player is at the moment and its lewis mcgugan. They also conveniently forget in the past hes used adam newbold, brendan maloney and also matt thornhill. He has also promoted karl darlow to back up keeper.

But again, hes apparently only played his stellar signings.

People make out likes a problem unique to davies. How many young players academy players came through the ranks to become regulars in calderwoods 3 years of bleakness? How many came through under kinnear or megson? How many players has the academy produced since 2004 that have gone on to become regulars, or even important players? How many of those rejected have gone on to make anything of themselves?
The only one is mcgugan, and look how many years its taken him to perform on an even vaguely consistent level.
The handful of others calderwood gave a run out too were all woefully inept.

If the academy is so important, why does doughty never appoint a manager who uses it heavily..well since paul hart?

Yes, it obviously served us so amazingly well pre billy too.

People big up our academy to be far better than it actually is. If it was so great it, would have produced more than just one useful player in the last half a decade

Look at Notts County under Paul Ince's expert guidance! He fielded kids and fringe players last weekend, bravely giving youth a chance .... whereupon they got spanked lol:spankarse:
