And yes I know there is other posts around the forum all saying the same thing, but I want to this mess into some kind of perspective and try and give the reasons, I feel for this mess we are currently in and try and rationalize it all in my own mind.
So.....Again, we lost and we are left wondering what next and where Forest will be next season, doom and gloom over the City Ground again, the promotion season euphoria seems a long and distant memory. The game against Derby did little to highlight the problems we have at this club as we all already knew the frailties and lack of depth the squad has.
We can keep raving on about lack of bodies etc, etc, but I believe Forest's problems run a lot deeper than this. There is fundamentally a deep rooted problem at Forest, we as fans pay to be entertained as Football is yes just a game, but for many it is much more than this. I for one am embarassed, why? Well let me move on....
We fielded a team yesterday that played with passion, commitment and desire but, we could ask no more and why should we from the team that obviously has more kids in it than a Gary Glitter gang, no experience and no real quality apart from Cohen, McGugan and Tyson we lacked depth. Who is to blame for all this? Under CC's reign I believe it was quite easy to start pointing the finger at him for lack of quality brought in over January, and of course we did we slated him for it. Under BD however we have now moved on to the board, why? because we could hardly slate a Manager who expressed his desire to bring bodies in and made it clear the board were dealing with this, we are now in a huge pile of shit because that was not done. We made offers for players that were pathetic, sorry I have to be honest here, none of those players shortlisted were ever transfer listed or in the clubs eyes a selling option. Of course with this in mind we must make offers that represent a good return for the selling club, an offer too good to turn down. I keep hearing about over inflated prices, of course they are over inflated because I reiterate these players are not for sale at peanuts, good players cost money, but the cost of relegation is a far more costly price to pay. We have played Russian roulette here (I can only see it going one way a gambler always loses in the end and I fear a massive backlash come the end of the season if we do not maintain championship status) and we were not prepared to be held at ransom we made offers that the board knew were not going to be accepted, excuse my ignorance but why? Are we having a laugh or something? Mark Arthur said as much on Radio Nottingham and I remember thinking how embarasing this all was, what board in the county do you know that say all this crap?
I am sorry but if the board showed the passion, desire and commitment that those young lads (who have been thrown in the deep end bearing in mind) have shown recently we would have got at least one player in. January is a time to be ruthless, for clubs it's about survival or promotion so over inflated prices are ineviatable for the selling club who may be challenging for some kind of promotion or to stay in the league and for the buying club where the aspirations are the same. So the need to get with the programme is needed, a need for strong businessmen to work their magic to get the best deals for this club, whilst making sure the deal is done, back the manager get the deal done and maintain survival or just chance it and see what happens which we have done (3 times in the past 3 seasons) and quite simply could not have afforded to do. I think Arthurs comments have personally dug a huge hole for himself and I certainly see a massive backlash if we don't stay up. I also believe the recent good form upto Cardiff clouded judgements from everyone at the club, BD has said numerous times that He would rather wait until the Summer and would rather not buy anyone, I worry I really do as it's comments like those that got us in this mess in the first place, in a ideal world where the squad could live with a few injuries and not a problem is fine, but when it is already threadbare why think like that?
The whole way the Club is being run is not good, surely to god the board would enquire about the players they targetted before they targetted them, that would have been a good idea, but I don't think that was done, it's just people not doing their homework and more importantly not doing their job right.
Either way we cut this, no matter how much they (the board) gloss it over, there has been errors that could turn out to be our undoing, there is fundamental problems at the City Ground, Mark Arthur and David Pleat are not what this club needs, we need scouts abroad doing various scouting missions and we need someone who is prepared to get the deal done. A lot is concerning me from BD with his comments about working with what he has got, so....does that mean the loan option is not going to be utilised either? For me the club is waiting until the Summer, and taking a chance on surving this year, no matter how it is done, but what they fail to realise is that, you must act on things that are blatantly obvious to ensure that will be done. Surely bringing the odd one or two players in for a relegation fight and experience would not be deemed useless next season?
Whether we use the loan market or not, I really don't know, but I know this the young lads have all the things the board should have, but don't, that though unfortunately will NOT keep us in this League. Serious action in the loan market will but I seriously doubt or could say with any degree of confidence that I trust this board to do what is needed, because quite simply they do very little to convince me that they will.
If we had put all our bids together we would have had over a million and that would have got Rob Jones, a quality player, a leader and a captain a player we really could be wishing we'd sign and surely a player who had years ahead of him and could be difference between staying up or not. So why didn't we do it? Because of all the reasons I gave above, we simply don't win by not paying above his current value to secure his services (If BD actually thinks he can make a difference, which he surely did, it's called backing the Manager) if the club actually thinks that and come the end of the season if we fail we will be the losers not anyone else, not the clubs who didn't sell, us and all they do is throw their dummy's out the pram and say shit things on the radio and come out with we won't be held at ransom, blah, blah blah. But what good is that to us who turn up to watch a League 1 team once again, what good is that when we are relegated, show some ambition man, make it happen and if you can't pass the reign to someone else who can, we need ruthless, a good negotiator and some f***ing balls, you and Pleat have got none of the above. How dare you place our club in such a percarious position when there was something you could have done to help or prevent it, sort of makes your job useless and I hope it doesn't come back to bite you in the arse for all the fans sakes but not for your's.
We don't have a board as such, we have gamblers who must play poker or something because I can't believe nothing was done, lets hope their good at it.
Rant over.
