Bolton boss Owen Coyle targets Nottingham Forest's former West Ham trainee Chris Cohen

Bolton are keen on a move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Chris Cohen.

Manager Owen Coyle inquired about the 23-year-old in January and are willing to make a renewed approach for the £5m-rated former West Ham trainee.

Bolton are also among a clutch of clubs interested in Portsmouth's Nadir Belhadj.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest have rejected a £750,000 offer from Ipswich for 24-year-old defender James Perch, who has only one year of his contract left to run.

We're serious about promotion, we won't sell!

£750k for Perch is tempting.

I thought he looked out of his depth last season, wherever he played.

750k for Perch about right, but he looked very good against Newcastle.

£5m for Cohen... take it and run Forest.

Good player but £5m is a lot of money.

The above only applies if we can suitably replace him!

I'm not so sure, Elmo. £5m is a lot of money, but I'm not sure we could replace him for that, at least not replace him with someone as established.

We could pick another lower league gem, but as with Cohen it's taken years for him to come to such prominance.

We need a squad capable of challenging for promotion, selling our key players won't do that.

I'd sooner see Perch, McGugan, McCleary and Moussi leave before Cohen.

To be honest I'd sell chris for £5million....It would potentially let us buy prattley and whittingham with some change to spare. Who incidentally if we did buy would possibly force cohen out of the first team, and possibly maj for that matter (in a 4-4-2). We'd still have our transfer kitty untouched to buy a lb, cb and cf.....

No wonder my post count..
Chris has 2 options - take Forest up and become a flagship player whom which all other teams associate us with.

Or take the guaranteed easy route into the premiership, establish himself as a first team player in Bolton over the span of a season.

I think going to a lower prem team would appeal to him more - if someone in the top half signed him, his career would just halt for a while.

While I'd be upset to see him leave, I'd be happy to see him happy.

Didn't you say only last week that the club couldn't turn down £5m for ANY of the playing squad?

If we sell cohen for £5m swansea and cardiff will want more for pratley and whittingham, saying that is cohen better than those players? With an unbiased view, maybe not

I'd take £5 million for Cohen any day of the week.

He's good but not ireplacable if that money was made available to Billy and the AP.

If we can sign them 1st I would accept 5million for Cohen.

I really like Cohen, the effort he puts in is inspiring for the other players. He's the kind of player you want to keep for 10 years and make club captain, but Pratley is similar.

A midfield of,

Whittingham Pratley Majewski Anderson

That leaves out Mckenna and Moussi who are good players too so you are always going to have competition and cover. Meaning you always have quality in form players.

If we can't replace these players it is vital we hang onto our squad. If we lose players like Cohen and Wilson we will be nowhere near this seasons heights.

This is to be expected after a fantastic season like the one Forest had. Our players are going to be attracting interest from the Premier League, as the majority of them are among the better players in this league.

We've just got to hope Cohen and the rest remain loyal, while the board don't break up the squad by accepting offers. I'm not too worried... :frantic:

£10m.

£5m is enough for most players, but Cohen is one of our stars.

Doesn't exactly contradict what you are saying now but here's a quote from the thread mentioned...

"I'd be gutted to lose him too, but I imagine we'd accept £1.5m for him.

I suppose it depends on the buying club. If it was an established Premiership club, without Middle Eastern investment then it'd be harsh on him to turn down £1.5-2m. If the club are mega bucks, then try get £10m."

Nope, they definitely said £5 million.

I wouldn't take it, £5 million wouldn't get us Whittingham and Pratley, who we would have to buy to compensate for the loss of Chris Cohen.

Hmmmm, tricky one this.

If someone said to me....Forest sold Cohen for 5m, then brought in Pratley & Whittingham, i'd definatly take it.

However, the likelihood is that we'd sell Cohen for 5m, Pratley buggers off to Wigan & Whittingham stay's put.....

Bolton and their **** of a Chairman can fook off.
