I was looking at the posts on here regarding Pratley and the rest of our targets and one thing struck me, We keep saying "we should pay the money the other clubs are asking" to buy these players but why does no other club want to buy the players we have?

I understand we have received 1.5M (or whatever you believe) for Perch and other players have moved on for nothing but for a side who had their best season for years with a young squad and showed so much promise, apart from Cohen and Wilson there's been very little Strong interest surrounding forest players.

We pay good money for players but we let players go on a free or we push them out of the Club ala Paul Smith but we don't seem to balance the books regarding transfers, no wonder Doughty won't throw his money around.

Is it also part of the AP's role to set the price of the outgoing players or do we just take whatever is on offer?

I don't remember us having a really big sale since Reid and Dawson were sold for around £8 Million in 2005 thats 5 years ago!!!

I appreciate we have been playing football in a lower division since then but if our academy is supposed to be strong and we have been looking to develop home grown talent, Why do our players not generate interest from other clubs, perhaps we give too much time to players who are of average ability without questioning why.

I don't want forest to be just another selling club but you need to develop assets in the first place.

Probably because were in a recession and the majority of our good players are still on long contracts and it will take a lot of money to prize them away from us. Also you have to realise that a good proportion of our squad was only purchased last summer so would have no interest in moving away so soon.

We generate income by getting rid of players who do **** all in the first place, their wages saved are our income.

It's not always this way though is it. As we are building a team it costs money.
We didn't work this way when we got rid of Reid, Dawson, Jenas etc in recent years and replaced with cheaper alternatives.

I realise a good chunk of the squad were purchased last summer but I'm talking of the last 5 years not 5 minutes. Does this say that we haven't produced a player who really warrants a large price tag in the last 5 years?

How can a saving on wages be a Income it doesn't generate income it merely saves wages. the original investment whether that be in terms of a transfer fee or the money the club have put into developing a player is lost if they go for nothing

No we havent. Tell me a player that we have produced in the last few years that you would consider to be worth 5 or more million. There are players in our squad though now that will be worth that in a few more years though for definate

It's simply because the majority of the players we've had in this period (since Daws/Reid) have been terrible and haven't been worth anything. It's only in the last 3 years or so that the squad has improved and now we're seeing players linked with bigger clubs for significant fee's.

Perhaps that's the answer I was looking for Forest have been complete **** for half a decade or maybe we needed Clough at Debys***e to buy some of our better players

I can't tell you a player we have produced in the last 5 years who has been worthy of a significant price tag because we haven't produced any, This is the whole point of the post! WHAT THE **** ARE THEY DOING AT THE ACADEMY. and its always in a few years time or he needs to develop but they never do.

I don't think we've produced a player with star quality since the days of Paul Hart. I'm led to believe some of the youngsters coming through at the moment have potential, but so did Lewis McGugan.

You can't expect an academy to produce multi million pound players every year. It doesn't work like that, not even at the big clubs, who spend 10's of millions on their's, importing coaches and kids in from all over the place.

We've raised about £19m in direct sales from academy graduates over the last 8 years and we've got half a dozen or so currently in the 1st team squad. That's pretty good going in my book.

Last year's batch came runners up in the whole country and the younger lads are apparently even better. That would suggest to me that the academy are doing quite well at the minute.

And who used to take charge of the Academy......... Paul hart wasn't it? perhaps he knew of the potential of the players that were coming through at the time and also had the respect of those players.

I reckon the fact that we have been in league one in recent years and other local/localish teams have been in higher leagues hasnt helped as young players, if given the choice, will go to a team that gives them the best chance of playing football at the best level.

Baggio, Still there's not been a big money transfer from one of these boys in 5 years and we continue to call for the Chairman to spend £6 million a year OF HIS OWN MONEY on players

The Academy sides did extremely well last season, competing with Premier League clubs (and their Budgets).

I remember our academy lads playing Chelsea's academy at one point last year, and the Chelsea *Academy* team cost more than our first team!

The academy has produced a good crop of young players; unfortunately one of Billy's first decisions was to scrap the reserve team; this meant that players coming out of the academy had nowhere to go, other than straight in to the first team (but we did see the likes of Adam Newbold and Joe Heath in the first team squad...)

This year, with the sensible decision to compete at reserve level again, we have a platform for the most promising academy players to get some game time against more experienced opponents - that can only be good for their development.

Karlton Watson has just been called up to the England Under-19 squad, and he's a recent Academy graduate.

Forest's academy is apparently very highly regarded; as Baggio says above, we've made nearly £20m in transfer fees for our academy graduates, which can only be a good thing (and probably means the academy has turned a profit!)

Aye, there'll be 1 or 2 more come along in good time. Its not a conveyor belt of talent, sadly.

In fact, you'd expect us to be due a ****e patch. We will have attracted ****e, or at least missed out to D*rby and Leicester when we were in League 1. Now we're moving up again, I'd expect our academy to be getting the best kids in the East Midlands again.

Once we're back in the Prem, we ought to be competing for the best kids from the East Mids and the surrounding areas, competing with the West Midlands and Yorkshire clubs and that.

I'm not sure I understand the issue here? Are we complaining because we're not selling our youngsters?!

How many of those listed above play left wong? And do they know the Leeds score?
