Optimism creeping in?

So, 4 signings in a week and the picnic that was about is slipping away. We've not built a team quite yet, but we're showing signs.

Its getting easier to buy the talk of promotion in the near future from BD and co.

I spoke to a bloke at work who's getting a season ticket for the 1st time since Paul Harts' play off season. That sort of thing is food for thought.

Then again, there's some big fish in this pond. And the likes of Plymouth and QPR have the money pouring in (even Notts have!). Has Doughty got the clout to push us up the division this year and build? And will we ever come out from under the shadow of "We're serious about promotion?", the eternal optimism brake for us Forest fans.

There's still much work to be done on the squad, but for now, there's some momentum building and we can wonder how far we can push in the next few years.

No wonder my post count..
Keep Wotto away from this optimistic thread - there might be a rip in the space/time continuum!

I'm becoming increasingly optimistic due to the signings already made, but I still think we're two or three players short of a side capable of any challenge on the upper echelons.

For a start, we need full backs and a centre back.

I really don't know what to think.

I have no trouble with the players that have been brought in so far - all good news.

But if the rumours about Tyson and Reading are true then I think we have taken a step backwards in the strikers department.

Although if we sign Dexter ... :hmm:

Yep I agree mate.

Let's just hope tomorrow sees Gunter and a new CB at Forest. Absolutely no reason why it won't happen now.

Agreed - I can confirm we should be challenging for playoffs this season. The way we cheated battled at Sheffield United, I'd back a Billy Davies team to win them.

Europe by 2012

Now just confirm Kelvin Wilson has been sold and this day can't get much better

Without wanting to be overly negative, I'm not caught up in a wave of optimism just yet.

Anderson was with us last year through the struggle. I don't really think there is much between Camp and Smith and I still think our strongest strike pairing is Earnshaw & Garner so our 1st 11 hasn't really improved for me.

It's early days in preseason yet but I feel the most important signings are yet to be made. We have no fit players for right back, left back or left wing without playing players out of position and we still need a centre back.

Good work so far but a more needed yet, I'm pretty sure they'll come.

It'd be better if we sold him to derby. I think the whole of LTLF would collectively have to clean the protein stains from their kecks then.

I agree with Clifford.

4 decent signings, but no-one that's gonna turn us into a top half side.

Hopefully they'll follow.

Indeed, with adebola and Baldrick being the only real 'fresh blood' at Forest I'm not overly excited yet. July does look promising though.

Lets be realisitc.

Improvements on last years squad which escaped relegation by the bones of our arse are Adebola and Baldric.

One of them might become a regular first teamer.

Get real folks, lets not talk of top six just yet.

Its a start but not nearly even close to being enough.

I know, I know. I did say next few years, not "now" :)

The thing is, you feel there's a good chance we'll get more signings, and that we'll push on this season. If we get the defence sorted, who knows?

We can be optimistic about not being in a relegation battle at the very least?

Very good post, totally agree. Defence is the major issue now would like to see a new left back, right back, TWO center half's. Wilson is not upto the challenge and BD knows it.

Re Nige's financial clout i think he has enough to provide Billy to get us up but not enough to keep up in the prem in say 3 years time. When we was last in the Prem 98/99 a local millionaire was good enough to provide for a club.To stay in the Prem now Foreign backers need to be at the helm and who was billionaires but if this happens i would like Doughty to be still on the board of directors as he cares about the club.

Seven points and three places - fairly comfortable at the end although a bit scary with 6 games to go.

Actually I think there are real reasons to be optomistic now.

It seems that the club, obviously shocked by last seasons dice with relegation, have finally shed their shackles and are now starting to 'walk the walk' as well as 'talk the talk'.

Blend the experience and organisational skills of the incoming players to the promise of last seasons youth and we could go a long way. Maybe not this season (although why not ;D) but quite easily next.

The signings so far may not stand out as being first team regulars (yet) but they give us depth and options not availiable last year. Given McKenna appears to be on his way, the Gunter rumours and an impending centre half (or two?) and suddenly we have a very very good squad at this level.

It's shaping up to be a cracking summer in the transfer market. Well done to all those concerned.

You know, there are English billionaires too, being loaded up to the eye balls doesn't mean you have to be foreign.
