Onto Tuesday.

Everyone one of our players burst blood vessels in yesterdays match and each and everyone one of them deserves some respite for the effort they put in, but we know it won't happen because of the match coming up on Tuesday.

Question is: Will Billy change this winning team around and rest a few or do we go with the same?

I've a feeling we might see up to 3/4 changes - mainly because of everything he says regarding having a squad big enough to change things around and so as not to knacker everyone up.

When you looked at the bench yesterday none of those who sat there deserved to be out of the team so who do you think will make his starting eleven.

My changes would see (bearing in mind we are away and the formation will change)......................

McGugan for Anderson.
The Moose for Majewski. (if fit)
Adebola for Blackstock.

But don't be surprised if Garner sneaks back in somewhere.

Smith - Blackstock - Majewski - Anderson - Tyson - McGoldrick - Chambers:

Billy will almost certainly make some changes.. depending on whether or not he feels that is the appropriate thing to do for our opponents.

I think Billy will make changes as he sees appropiate to try and counter the opposition.

Whilst I do think yesterday's starting XI was the strongest when everyone is fit and available, it is refreshing to have such a tactically aware manager. This is something that we haven't had for years.

Am I the only one who thinks Garner is overrated ?

I know he is out of position on the right, but for me he just doesn't do enough, his tackling is poor, he dives and he needs to learn to control himself more in terms of the amount of yellow cards he picks up.

I'd probably play Majewski and Earnshaw in there somewhere. Chris Morgan isn't the best against nippy players and I think Majewski would do well against an underperforming Sheff Utd defence.

Garner isn't deployed there because he's effective in the traditional sense in that position, he's there generally to 'do a job' on a particular person - see how quiet Robbie Savage was on the pitch with Garner after him.

It's a bit of a cheap tactic really. I don't think anybody highly rates him as a midfielder and definitely not a winger.

As a striker I think he has tremendous potential, but he's going to have to go some to break into the side up front.

Just to be clear .....

I wouldn't pick Garner on the right of midfield, but I think Billy will.

Would you only play him to do a job on a certain player ?

I can't ever see him leading our front line or even bagging 10 goals in a season.

Think sending him on loan until next season would hopefully go towards proving me wrong, or even a years loan next season

I'm not expert enough to really make that decision, but Billy is :) I have seen games where I think I can see what benefit it gives us, other times less so.

Would I know before a match which opponents it would work against and which it wouldn't?

Definitely not.

He's not a midfielder though. He deserves a shot up front.

Garner's tally of 7 goals last season was pretty respectable considering he was coming into a struggling side, finding his feet at a level he'd never played at before as well as coming back from a long-term injury.

Personally I rate him above McGoldrick, Adebola and Tyson as a striker and would like to see him used up front more often.

I think Davies sees the potential in him as well.

Savage ran the game against us last season. If it means getting Garner to take him out of the game in order to win, then yes, I would.

Anyone who saw Garner's goal at St Mary's nearly 12 months ago will agree he has tremendous potential. At the moment though, he is behind several others in the pecking order. Davies obviously sees something in him - even to the extent of playing him (palpably) out of position.

He may not last the course with us (which I would consider a shame), but he has the abiity to play at a good level.

official match-day thread?

anyhow.. as for Tues (as I'm here)..

In typical Forest Fan fashion, my first thought for away games like this is '4-5-1 nice and safe'. But truth be told I think we should go out there and f***ing batter 'em!

Start Moussi. This is his type of game..

I think it could be the same but with Moose in for Earnie.

Can we really drop Earnie after a hattrick and 5 goals in 3 games?

Yeah dropping Earnie did concern me when I formulated my teamsheet. But, if you think about it, theres no way Billy will play Earnie up front alone, and doubtful he will play a 4-4-2 away. so there it is.
As other posters have said, this is a game for the moose and i wouldn't like to see him without Mckenna so to incorporate a playmaker it has to be a 4-2-3-1 really. The 1 has to be Dex.

Adebola to start, the only player who can rough up Morgan(Chris) in our team.

Don't need to resort to that. Let's stifle their midfield and play the football we're capable of. If it's not working then Earnie comes on in a 4-4-2 with maybe McCleary and McGoogs

I agree, I think Billy could ask quite a few players to come on and do that job, as it doesn't require much ability, but the fact he asks Garner shows a willingness to play him and keep him happy.

I also think that Earnshaw can be rested/dropped as Billy must be happy with him and will have conveyed this.

Earnshaw will know that this game tactically isn't his type.

But will be sure he's going to get a game next saturday.........

We don't need to rough up Morgan. We should merely run rings round him. We should be able to beat them on pure footballing ability alone. Adebola and Tyson giving them problems in the 1st half, then Dex and Earnie putting them out of their misery in the 2nd. Can't wait to go there!

That's just playing to Morgan's strenghs. I reckon he'd rather face Dele than Earnshaw.

Agreed. I remember Harewood and Johnson running rings around Morgan, he is badly exposed by pace and skill. Adebola will just be a like for like match up, so if we are to play a lone striker, it has to be Blackstock.
