Kevin Keegan's love affair with the Anfield faithful began just 12 minutes into his Reds bow on this day in 1971.

The diminutive forward repaid Bill Shankly's faith in him with a debut goal against Nottingham Forest as the Reds followed up their 1-0 defeat at Leicester with a much-needed 3-1 win.

Elsewhere on this day in LFC history it was a similar story in 1993 as Nigel Clough introduced himself to the Kop with a bang.

The former Forest striker netted a goal either side of half-time to lead the Reds to an opening day 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Anfield.
