Omar Richards

Hope Omar Richards can put his career back on track. We never got to see it but there was clearly some real talent there- never heard any stories of him being anything other than professional so I won't hold a grudge.
Yeah for all the talk of Harry Arter, Richards appears to actually be willing and able to play, even if he’s not quite up to the level now. Career defining injuries can happen to any player at any time.

To be honest, he’s very good mates with my nieces husband and he dug his heels right in and refused to leave. I get it from his perspective but it cost the club dearly and I’ve passed that onto him 🤣
I actually feel quite sorry for the lad, he was a decent talent and got Bayern to sign him from Reading, then comes back here to play for us and is pretty much broken relatively seriously straight away, and can't manage to get his form or fitness back in 4 years for the club who spent a lot on him. I'm sure Omar wants to play football the same as the others...

What's more alarming, and probably still affecting his confidence and his game, is how a lad as young as he was could get a stress fracture that bad, that kind of hints (though I'm sure he's had all the tests) that there's something not quite right underlying there. Football does involve a lot of running around but it's on a largely softer surface compared with say tennis players where it's more common who spend most of the year running around from side to side on hard courts.

The club have a duty of care to him as an employee. If it happened after signing for us then clearly something happened in training. If it was before and they signed him without doing enough medical checks to pick it up, if indeed that was possible, then again that's on Forest and they should be standing by him. Remains to be pondered what would have happened if he'd stayed at Bayern with the stress fracture

Well how about if you don’t want to leave, being good enough to play?

Arter played a higher level than Forest had been for a long time yet he was barely here six months before being shown the door. And then Charlton weren’t fussed on him, nor was he much cop at County. Everyone’s fault but his, presumably.

It’s all well and good saying you’ve got a contract and a promotion clause but HE didn’t do a single f***ing thing to get promoted so whatever might legally be his, he didn’t earn a penny of that money. Fan’s money. People who’ll never have a sniff of what he had before he even arrived.

Anyone who can sleep well pulling in half what MGW is bringing home now for doing literally nothing is not someone I’d trust as far as I could throw his fat useless arse.

Whilst you have every right to feel this way, the lack of compassion for all that Arter went through in his personal life at that time that likely contributed to the situation, his struggle for passion for football and most probably his mental health is pretty callous. It’s not his fault Forest gave him that contract, why shouldn’t he see it out in the midst of trauma? There was no evidence whatsoever that he didn’t follow through with his contractual responsibilities even though he wasn’t picked to play here, or elsewhere on loan, in fact, everything I read reflected well on him and his professionalism even if he dug his heels in to get what he was owed and not just walk away from it. There’s not one person on this forum that would have walked away from that money just to help the club out.

What trauma? I know of a bereavement half a decade before which didn’t stop him lining up in the prem for Bournemouth and Cardiff, but that’s it..

Everything you read reflected well on him apart from Houghton shitcanning him after no time at all, Cooper not thinking he was worth the trouble either and Nuno the same.

You don’t end up with the under 21s without seriously underperforming. He was well known as a complete knob at other clubs well before 2015, with only Howe really able to get a tune out of him.

He gets the same respect from me he was notorious for showing referees.

I know Arter played in the top flight but surely by the time Nuno came here that ship had sailed for him regardless.

I think he was a bit poorly scouted, he was a defensive midfielder really, and at most a box to box one, but he scored a screamer against us towards the end of the Lamouchi season when we were in freefall and then he was out of contract so we probably got him with the expectation he'd be able to do more in an attacking sense, only it turned out to be different when we actually had him, plus we lost I think our first 4 so Lamouchi got fired and then we were going on with Hughton, who was a bit of a toss pot, but for some reason didn't rate him - probably not a wrong decision, but he was basically not used much after only just signing and a few games of being shit. Cooper coming in was after about a year of him not playing and not getting into a bottom half team, and also he saw him training, and whenever they were the failed loan spells, so there was probably nothing pointing at wanting to bring him back in really.

I don't blame Arter though if the club chose to make a signing and not play him. He's perfectly entitled, as is anyone else, to see out his contract.

Jonjo Shelvey mentioned the Arter situation on Under the Cosh. Arter seemed quite happy to sit in the bomb squad while making light of it. I get he had difficult personal circumstances but at least be humble while getting paid to do nothing. He was encouraging Shelvey to sit there with him when he was looking for a move away.

I can remember there being some mention of suing Bayern over Richards injury? If they knew there was an issue, surely the player also knew. Which if he did, I'd lose any sympathy for how this career has dipped.

Gutted.
After Big T, Yatesy and Abbott he was the longest serving player at the club.

He was a cornerstone of our Premierleague team, we cannot replace him.
