Omar Richards

What were these horrific injuries? (I dont doubt it, just curious)
He had a hairline fracture in his leg - either missed in the medical (possible as they don't always include x-rays) or in his first training session, after which he reported some swelling and discomfort and a lump, which he didn't have while in Germany. Had multiple surgeries, related muscle injuries and a hernia and never made it back to anywhere near PL standards but was able to be loaned out.

I think we tried to get money back from Bayern for signing a player with a pre-existing condition but not sure it went anywhere. There was much consternation at the time as he'd been due to make his debut in a friendly with Hertha Berlin and never appeared. The news was kept secret by the club who thought if other clubs knew we were desperate to sign a replacement (after already signing Toffolo as cover) they'd up their prices. There was an ITK guy who popped up on here and kinda broke the news - but he was a smug, obnoxious f***er TBF and rubbed everyone up the wrong way and ended up disappearing.

Oh, he had help disappearing, you can take that from me.

The club would probably have had to prove that Bayern knew about the issues and/or had either lied or been otherwise negligent when selling the player. Of course, there's no proof that he hadn't done it since signing for the club. It's one reason why players have medicals and clearly the one they did on Omar wasn't detailed enough (or he wasn't injured then) to pick it up.

In situations like this the onus is on the buyer to do any necessary checks and due diligence. The obvious exception to this is the CRA 2015 and reverse burden of proof for faults in the first six months after purchase, but then that only applies to businesses selling goods etc to consumers, which wouldn't cover the transfer of a football player. So them trying to do that with Bayern would be unlikely to succeed (unless they made a statement about the player's fitness) and it's more likely that whoever was looking at medicals at the time for the club got an earful for costing the club a lot of money. I don't know the figures to hand but it could even have been the case that had we done more detailed medical checks on the player (assuming he had the injury at that stage) which would have found the issue we wouldn't have signed him and then probably wouldn't have breached PSR the year after.

It's a real shame he doesn't seem to have recovered from it either because what he's had will have been somewhat unlucky but a leg break happens all the time to players and they usually recover fine as do probably the related muscle injuries, but then it's likely it happened without an impact, which could have potential with recurrence and maybe it's made him a bit apprehensive about playing, we saw that a bit with Danilo when he came back from his injury, possibly. But if he's not regained the form and confidence he had when on loan for 3 years chances are he's not going to.

I'm quite surprised he's still here though. He signed a 4 year deal in 2022 and it's now 2026 so that should have expired, unless they gave him an extra year or something because of his injury issues? Interesting as surely he'd want to move on and play somewhere even if it's not at the level he was capable of in 2022. But then it's also difficult to see what that level is as he's not done much when on loan.

The contract that he'd reportedly signed would have done - unless there was an unspecified automatic extension clause in there.
I reckon it's possible they just reported it wrong to start with - given at the time we were spending a lot of money on a lot of players, and amortising those purchases over a 5 year contract would have made more sense than a 4 year one.

I'll reiterate what I've probably already said numerous times in this thread - it's just such a shame all round.

He looked set for such a good career when he was at Reading and he seemed somewhat of a coup when we secured the transfer from Bayern. Was actually one of the signings I was most looking forward to seeing.

Crazy that all these years later, he's not played a single competitive game for us. Those injuries must have really done a number on him because he had such potential.

Like others, every pre-season I do allow myself a faint moment of misplaced hope that maybe, just maybe he will become the player he once was and play a part in our squad, but I don't think that's possible anymore sadly. Too much damage has been done it seems and, at 28 years old, he's now approaching the back half of your standard playing career anyway.

Hope for his sake that he manages to salvage some sort of career while he still can but, regrettably, injuries seem to have put paid to any chance of him being able to reach the level we need him to be at.

The lesser spotted Omar Richards, rumoured to be rarer than a world class player in a Derby shirt. Spent 8 mil on him 4 years ago and never played a league game for us. The only postive thing I can say is, he is not as bad as Harry Arter
When his contract ends would not be surprised is see him grace teams such as Crawley Town.

Tbf your avatar would do better than Harry Arter did.

Comes out once every 12 months like the Groundhog. See you next year Omar.

He didn't look too bad yesterday tbf, albeit against League 1 cloggers.
The lad showed great potential in his pre-injury days, and I wonder if there is still a decent player there if he can remain injury free.
Forest seem to have done well by him to try and rehabilitate him, with decent loan spells.
He did well for his 45 mins yesterday, and I think he should be given plenty of opportunities over the pre-season to show whether he is able to regain his early promise.

The problem with long-term injuries is that players, particularly ones in the early part of their career, really get a double-whammy of falling behind in their development - time which they will never get back and the mental worry creeping in that they could re-injure themselves.
It really takes a very special mindset and determination to come back from such a lengthy injury,

Could it be the end of the Omar Richards era?

We've been through so much together. What a Forest legend. 🥺

Strange how it's a Greek team. Especially Aris, whose owners were on very good terms with EM a few years ago, then a sister came out with some big accusations, but now it seems that it's all been patched up - apart from them being very close to signing Omar, they are also close to spending 3.5M euros on a Portuguese keeper, which is a massive splash out for a medium Greek team. One wonders how.

All falling nicely into place now with these outgoings.
