Omar Richards

There's a short interview with him in the latest issue of World Soccer magazine: he seems to have enjoyed and benefited from his loan and has made over 30 appearances, with over half being full matches.

Getting him minutes was the main objective of the loan, so it can been considered a success. Nuno can have a look and make a decision on whether he figures in his plans.

Wonder if we'll keep this guy around this season to play in the Conference League?
Don't think so

Stayed fit all season which is good but don't think he really stood out at Rio Ave, I suspect we will cut our losses & try to find a buyer, out of contract at the end of the this upcoming season.

It has been a pretty terrible signing all round but I think all parties can consider themselves unfortunate

Yes I suspect you're right all round there.

Clicking on the thread took me to the start, where I see he was 24 in 2022. Had no idea he was as old as that (27 now)! Time to move him on.

Seems a shame because there was clearly something there when he was at Reading for Bayern to take a punt on a 2nd tier player, and it seemed to work out for him there as well.

Makes you wonder a bit what the injury was actually caused by as a young-ish player like he was shouldn't be getting a stress fracture in a leg out of nowhere which then takes a whole year to be anywhere near healed. Players recover from clean breaks a lot quicker. And there's probably a fair chance either the injury, the length of his recovery, or simply his confidence have taken a knock since. The club will no doubt be aware how he is and checking in with his progress at Rio Ave but I would agree he isn't going to be up to the PL or ECL next season.

He would probably need to be looking at a loan to the CH for someone to get him on a free next season. I doubt anyone would buy him given what we paid and that EM would probably like some return on his investment.

It's honestly quite sad that he'll never have the career he perhaps should have done. Very talented and promising player once upon a time but injuries have basically robbed him of what should have really been his prime years.

Will always be a case of what might have been - for both him and us.

No idea how reliable the guy is, apparently works for transfermrkt, but suggestions that Richards is heading to Watford:

His next move could be pivotal for his career. He's 27 now, and hasn't even managed to play in 150 games yet. His loan spells since returning from injury have been underwhelming. If he chooses the wrong club and ends up stuck backing someone else up, or suffers another serious injury, he may find himself without any willing suitors.

Final year of his contract, isn't it? So that's him done for Forest barring an unlikely January recall.

Was looking at the news page on the official site on my phone and the Forest logo had obscured Omar's face

Typical as I don't think we've seen that in a competitive match - or ever will

That's a good one. She must have ended up that way after hitting a forehand as pretty much no WTA players are 1HBH these days

Interestingly I haven't seen that much of the US. I don't think the time delay helps with that and the Aus really, as most matches are in the night - unlike Wimbledon where you could (in principle of course) sit and watch a day's play. And Draper won his first match and then pulled out because his arm wasn't right yet, and that pretty much ended home interest (not really sure about Norrie, I don't really enjoy watching him anyway nor do I think he's really that British). And I don't really find the WTA matches to be anywhere near the ATP ones in terms of quality, and that gap has got wider (you would have maybe imagined about 20 years ago that the Williams might have managed to at least compete with anyone outside the top 100 in the ATP, but not now with the top WTA players).

There is usually a 2 week period every year where I have hope that Richards will come back from his latest loan spell and show some of the form which made us sign him. I have less hope this year!

No reflection on Omar of course. The injuries he suffered when he first joined were horrific. Its a real shame his career has gone the way it has.
