Oliver „No Middle Name“ Glasner

Ultimately the home form will make or break our season. It's been wretched for so long it's becoming a self fulfilling prophecy.

Confident Glasner will be a success but it may need further tweaks to the 11 and changes in Jan.

Agreed and so far it's breaking it. Needs to turn it around. The worrying thing was Coventry was a regression from Leeds and Spurs where we perhaps deserved better. Lumping it in the box aimlessly. I hope Glasner has a better plan B going forwards, it's what we're paying him the big bucks for.

Glasner wins cups.

His league form with Palace was bang average, although you could argue he had them punching above their weight they were more established than us, which means he's starting from further back.

The way the PL has gone, Forest aren't going to win it whilst I am alive, I have resigned myself to, but a Cup?

Yes please. I would take that, any day of the week.

Tbh I am not seeing many positives at home and personally I can't stand three centre backs, I think it's overkill. Glasner or otherwise. Against Coventry I was thinking to myself we were never gonna score, which is a concern. He should have changed things sooner, that loss was on him.

I like Glasner, comes across a decent bloke and has a good pedigree, but if he doesn't start addressing the home form pronto and stop picking Dan Ndoye then I'll start to question things. We can't rely on the occasional away win and I don't think Maranakis is going to be happy watching those performances at the City Ground.

I’m totally behind Glasner but I agree that 3 CBs and no wingers at home v Coventry isn’t ambitious enough

I don’t see why the system has to be sacrosanct regardless of the occasion or opponent. At home against ‘lesser’ teams we should be going for it more

I think it gets to a point whereby changing their system is like admitting they got it wrong, they will never do it. Ruben Amorim at United for example. I don't think for one minute Glasner will change his system.

At least we look more solid with three at the back though and our defence will never be carved wide open by a long ball from the goalkeeper...oh wait...

Where the hell was Cunha btw?! I can't bring myself to watch it back...he was awful. Tough on Aina.

I'm completely behind Glasner and I think he could bring some stability and will have us safe with ease this season.

What I'm struggling with is him being so wedded to a system that he will plough on with it against sides where it's obvious that the formation needs changing.

Managers should always have a Plan A and a Plan B in my book and as a manager the only thing that you can do during a game to affect it is to either change the personnel or change the system. I can't understand a manager that is effectively happy to tip out half of the tools from his toolbox that he might need before he turns up on site.

He was Munoz's man, not Cunha's.

The wingbacks need to be wingers, in games like that. That's why I think we should try CHO as a wingback in some games.
By using CHO instead of Neco and push both him and Munoz high we transform the 3-4-2-1 more into a 3-2-4-1 when we attack.

If we then swap Ndoye with Jesus, with Jesus pushing more into the box alongside Delap you might get something more like a 3-2-3-2. It could work in some games.

I think Glasner need to be a bit more flexible and use his squad differently in different games. Away at Man City you want Neco as wingback, but at home agianst Hull or Ipswich we might be better of with CHO? The same goes for Jesus vs. Ndoye, Aina vs. Cunha etc. We will probably be more vulnerable on the break and the risk for goals like the one Coventry scored is bigger, but I think we need to take some more risks at home.

Well we're already out of one of the cups at the first stage!! Doing well.
That was one of his first games with us against a side that played our same system but knew it infinitely better than us.

I think he can be forgiven for that, and I think he can win a cup with us.

Like with everyone else. Give him time.

I've always found this mindset completely baffling. I speak about this to coaches regularly and especially to young coaches. My advice to them is that a good coach will change something that isn't working and a bad one is more bothered by perception.

If you cannot see the positives coming from the Oliver Glasner setup already, then there's no hope for you.

I don't have any problems with Glasner and I think we'll be fine this season, but wouldn't go as far as saying there's clear positives.

We've already seen keeper errors, new Glasner signing error leading to a goal, our best CB looking unfit, the wing backs not contributing much, limited attacking threat and what has mostly been dull football and dull results.

Most of that is just bedding in process. The only real positives for me is McAtee stepping up to performances i didn't think he was capable of and Schlager doing alright on a free. That's about it. I want to see more before I crow about our new manager.

Forest Focus (the only podcast worth spending time watching) have just release a "How do you rate Glasner so far?".
The consensus was around 5 out of 10 - with away performances getting 8 or 9, but home being 1 out of 10.
My own assessment is around 3 out of 10 overall - away 6 (we were already decent away from home, so at least OG has maintained that), but I compare the home offering to that under Vitor, and cannot give it even 1.
The home form was dreadful before Glasner, but at least under Vitor we played some decent, exciting football.
What he is serving up at the WFCG is uninspiring and 1 point from the 3 league games with zero goals scored is abysmal.
Can anyone explain why my zero for home games is not fair on OG?
I do want OG to stay in post, but FFS, Ollie, let us see some decent football, some goals scored, and some wins.
If you, on £13 million per year (in my opinion) can't do that, I suggest you give 50% of your salary to charity!

Pretty sure we went to a 442 against Cov when we were chasing the game...

I am surprised so many people are talking about the 'system'. On paper it is a back 3, in possession (depending on which side the the pitch we are progressing down) it is more like a 4. Out of possession it can be a 5. There is far more nuance than to just say we play with a back 3.

He always seems to have at least 5 defenders on the pitch at home...

Sure.

We got a point against Spurs, so it can't be zero.

If you want more detail than that, we were unlucky not to take all three points against Spurs, and on another day we could have also taken all three points against Coventry. Defensively we've been pretty solid, goalkeeping error and full back error aside which OG can't really plan for.

It's now awe inspiring don't get me wrong, but I'd say our home games have been more like 3/10 all things considered.

I'd still be knocking your 3 back because the entertainment value is wretched.

We waited until we were chasing the game instead of putting a system out that is better against a low block

We talk about the system a lot because they are integral to how you're going to play. The issue with back 5 is that it's almost always going to be set up to hit teams on the counter. Added to that it means you've essentially always got 5 defenders on the pitch which means you're sacrificing a creative player for a defender.

I genuinely have nothing but admiration for those fans that have been to every home game this season and are walking out the ground and thinking to themselves just trust in the system. It costs a hell of alot of money these days and they've been served up dross. I honestly wish I was that positive so kudos to them.

Instead I'm watching every game from afar, not even paying for the privilege and thinking to myself 'how much longer can I watch this b*llocks'

Of course, I'll be back watching the Palace game full of optimism again and if we win we'll be singing. You Reds!

Tbf pretty much every performance under Megson was similarly inept and that was at a lower level.

What I find more baffling about it is that Dyche managed Everton and set them up to be as resilient as they are, yet his Forest tactic played straight into the strength he'd set up
And he did it twice, in a month wasn't it?

I worry watching us at the moment that we just offer zero threat. It's a worry I had way back before we started the season and nothing has happened to make me change my mind at the moment.

We're solid enough and we'll earn points at times purely from not conceding many goals but I don't see us ever blowing anyone away playing like this. I still think we've chosen a 'system manager' and then not given him the players to play in it. Ndoye just isn't a 10, Neco isn't a flying LWB, Sels isn't a sweeper keeper and there's no standout midfielder in my opinion in the squad.

So for me we either change the players or Glasner changes the system as seeing these square pegs trying to be forced into round holes is painful at times. Why we didn't sort out the left-hand side in particular in the summer is beyond me. So this is one that could take several windows to get us looking like Glasner actually wants us to. The problem is will he be given that much time? Either by the big man himself or by the fans?

I can see why he's has a good track record in cups as opposed to the league.

Can we stop this BS narrative that Coventry played a low block!!! I completely disagree. Just because we were sh*t, doesn't mean they played a low block!!! We created naff all, were effectively playing with 10 men with Ndoye completely useless! I laughed my head off in the first half when he couldn't control the ball from a throw in and then whacked a cross in straight for a goal kick!!

They quite literally did. They played with a back 5 and doubled up on Munoz.
