Oh Mist rolling in from......

Forever Forest

Geoff Thomas
I am be wrong about the 'World in his hands thing' but I am sure there is a fan recording somewhere.

I also feel pretty sure we sang this if not in the late seventies then in the early eighties. I will call a few of the old Trent Enders over the next few days and take a straw poll.

Back in the day very heavy mists did used roll in over thr CG and did cause games to be obandoned. Anybody recall WBA in 1973?

But that was when Winnits was only a twinkle in his Dad's eye!

I remembered Spurs in the cup in the 90's when the city ground looked like the north pole lol

According to my dad, 'City Ground' was definitely sung during our European Cup years and he also seems certain that what was sung back then was:

'We all agree Nottingham Forest are magic.
We all agree Nottingham Forest are magic, are magic, are magic...' etc.

Yes that is correct.

It most certainly is correct :)

I reckon The mist song is at the end of WGTWWIOH after Cloughie says "Yarwood, follow that!"

I was in the Trent End for a night match when they recorded the Nottingham Forset Are Magic bit before a game

it definately caught on quickly. I used to go in the Bridgford End with my uncle Wyn and I don't really remember it from there, but I got a junior Season ticket for the Trent End 79/80 season and it was a definate staple.

I remember a very misty evening in Jan 22 1980 (my birthday) when we beat Liverpool in the League Cup - my first night match in the Trent End and it was certainly sung then. I got a telling off from Brian Clough after the game for waiting outside the players door for autographs on a school night.

MoK was released on 11 Nov 1977. WGTWWIOH was released 22 Feb 1978. The only night game at home in that time-frame was Man City in the FA Cup on 24 Jan 1978, so it must have been then?

It still seems a bit quick for it to catch on - Its been around 30 years and some people are still getting it wrong ;) - but at the fade out there is somthing under the refrain that sounds like it.

I've never noticed it before but I've just had a close listen to that part of the Paper Lace track and it is in the background at the end (you can clearly make out the 'is always to be here' part of the lyrics). The fact that it caught on so quickly shows how just how much it resonated with the Forest faithful.

So I was right?

Not suprising it caught on so quick; it was the christmas number 1 that year and everybody was singing it!

Slightly off topic but one of my first games I went to, the crowd chanted, "what do you want to be?" "I want to be a tree" and then made various tree impressions (?) - it made me giggle and I think we should do it again
