Nuno Espírito Santo

He clearly didn't behave well - but having seen how this season has panned out with the fancy expensive new squad, there's no doubt he had a point. Add to that the public courting of an out of work manager and I think it becomes obvious that there are two sides to this story.

I don't hate him, I feel the bitterness and sadness of a jilted lover if I'm honest. I wish we could rewind to June 1 and stand at the gates to the WFCG and say to the suave stranger "what was the name again? Edoo? Sorry mate, no one with that name on my list".

I agree. The appointment of Edu and in particular the courting of Ange were terrible mistakes, and seem to be what led to all
of the unpleasantness.

Nuno was noshing Marinakis off with mendez behind Cooper's back - even if Ange was being courted behind Nuno's back it's only like for like, and shouldn't have been a surprise to him that EM did with Ange what he did with Nuno a few seasons earlier.

Still on the Mt Rushmore of NFFC managers for me.
That's wild to me.

He gave us 6 months of shit football, followed by 6 months of good football and 6 months of average football before his implosion.

Clark gave us several years of good stuff.

Cooper did too.

Billy did as well.

Bassett gave us a full great season and so did Calderwood.

Hart gave us 3 mostly good years, with great progression via young players he himself had sourced and developed, against budget restrictions.

A manager called Brian Clough should probably be in the top 4 too lol.

Nuno's poxy 6 month of goodness doesn't come close to getting him in the Top 4 for me.

Crikey, I hate the bloke with a passion, but I think the Wet Sham fans may be taking it a bit too far...

By all means sack him, but offing him's probably a tad too far.

I don't have any animosity towards Nuno. I don't think he managed the situation well and he shouldn't have spoken out against the owner, however I also think the club (Edu) caused a lot of problems. We will never know what happened between him signing a contract and then the spectacular public outburst; I think both sides could have managed it better.

Regardless of your thoughts on Nuno or Edu, I do think him leaving had a big impact on the players; you could clearly see that from the mutual respect between him and several forest players after the game last night. Nuno didn't cover himself in glory, but I find the vitriol towards him a bit OTT.

The East End never changes. They'll ask the Mitchell brothers to kidnap him until May.

It is bittersweet.

Part of me still loves Nuno for what he did, he genuinely brought that feel good factor back to us, we were the chippy underdog which upset the big teams and I loved it. I loved the fact we could go anywhere and get a result, I loved his relationship with the players, I loved his work in the community, I thought he was an excellent ambassador for Nottingham Forest.

But Nuno did the same thing at Wolves, and then when he didn't get his own way all of that went out of the window and he f**ked off. It is pointless trying to line up the timelines as we don't know how long agents have been talking behind closed doors and who did what. What we do know is that the pre-season was a shambles, we do know that on the eve of our first league season back in Europe Nuno dropped a bombshell interview on Skysports hammering the club. He then doubled down on his comments not once, but twice and ultimately made his position untenable. I have to admit, seeing him utterly fail at West Ham brings me no enjoyment, but it does have a feeling of karma about it.

I have more sympathy for Nuno since the rumours about Edu getting shitcanned tbh.
It at least makes a certain kind of business sense to prioritise the longer term, overall plan (which involved Edu more than Nuno) but if we're not even doing that its starting to look like we're just stumbling from one silly blunder into the next without much of a plan at all.

Edu will have targets and objectives, if he isn't meeting them like anyone else there should be questions asked.

We do need a top down structure - EM isn't going to change, unless he sells, but below that the DoF needs to be relatively constant so he can appoint other senior staff, manager/head coach and recruit players in the same model, but the key point is that this DoF has to work!

If the DoF isn't working out then absolutely they need to go because we can't have senior staff who aren't up to it.

There are so many people involved like Wilson, Syrianos, Edu, Nuno, maybe EM even in last summer's window that we don't know who was responsible for what. But it was clear Jesus, Savona were good buys, there's a bit more debate on Bakwa, Hutchinson, Ndoye, JV is a capable enough 2nd choice but is quite inconsistent and a touch error prone, Luiz and Zinchenko were probably misses and Kalimuendo probably also, that's a lot of investment which is questionable at best and little which has produced clear returns yet - Jesus, for all he is which is good, still only has 1 PL goal.

In the end Nuno didn't exactly make his position tenable with results. We didn't do well since April and didn't really play well since losing 5-0 vs Bournemouth, we staggered through the cups and started the new season inconsistently, despite the expense on the playing side.

I think in the end the Edu thing was a convenient excuse for him and probably he realised we overachieved massively for basically half of last season and he couldn't do that again... and the whole dismissal thing was engineered to get a lot of money.

If West Ham lose to Spurs on the 17th and Nuno is still in charge, would it be the first time in Premier League history that a manager of 4 or more PL clubs has lost to each of his former PL clubs in consecutive League games?
I love a good stat, and that’s a banger!
